  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • To start with you do machining where you use lathes, mills and you do hand fitting for 3 months each. After that i will go to doing rigs and maintenance based tasks where we are required to complete knowledge tests to prove to your instructors that you have knowledge of what your doing and then you complete all of your tasks and then you go out on placement and complete your apprenticeship

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt loads of practical skills such as how to use a lathe and a mill and to adapt to new situations because coming into an apprenticeship straight from school is a big jump and you have to learn really quickly that you wanted to grow up and do something different you learn all sorts of disciplines

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my apprenticeship because of all AWE has provided me with. They have provided me with. They have helped me with making a fresh start in life with new friends and a new trade all of the instructors are all really nice and welcoming into the skills academy

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is organised really well. Awe have got the apprenticeship laid out knowing what is happening at every point of the week. They know what your targets should be and how you progress depends on what effort is put in. The instructors are fully prepared for all situations and are able to overcome most problems

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • You receive a lot of support from your employer for everything ranging from mental health, help within the workshop, help at home, for college. All of the support you get given is top quality you get a very warm feeling from all the instructors and get made to feel welcomed to the skills academy

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • You dont get loads of help within your new workplace you are given all the help you need from college and are expected to complete all your work. If you do need extra help you should be able to get extra help within your workplace if you really need it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification that you get a college does help within your workplace but you will realise it helps later in your apprenticeship. Are training provider have gone through all options for qualification. It doesnt help with your role to start with because you are working on the basic of basic things but later into the apprenticeship it will get better

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are social activities. I don't know about anything else because i haven't looked at taking part or participating. So it is a poor one on my side but i know AWE do participate in events outside of work. They do participators in networking events to expand there revenue

  • 9a. Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a really good apprenticeship regarding learning opportunities they try to promote all types of learning and create good learning situations for you to expand your knowledge within the apprenticeship. All of the instructors are all really nice and helpful if you have any issues they are all more than happy to help you out no matter what issues you have


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
  • I would say keep your head down and just do whats right for yourself and others around you. Dont be swayed to do anything you shouldn't do because it will come back to haunt you. All you need to do is do the best you can and be the best version of you as possible
