  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day tasks involve posting sweeps, bank reconciliations, payment runs and clearing GLs. More responsibilities are likely to be gained when I get more experience and knowledge of the company and practise. My team also has a table football league, where we play one game a day which is good for breaking the day up with a bit of fun.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • After starting with basically no knowledge of accounting, I have learnt a lot since starting. A lot of it is becoming second nature basically through practise as you learn as you go and make mistakes. What has been particularly helpful is the reassurance that if you make a mistake, it isn't the end of the world and will be able to be corrected. I've also learnt a lot on my college days (every Friday), which helps understanding the theory of what you are doing at work and your understanding of it.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really do enjoy it - the people are great and are always willing to help on anything I also enjoy going to college as it means only a four day working week and it's a break from your normal routine. Exams can also be delayed if you feel like you need more time to revise

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Engie has a structured development plan for its apprentices where we are expected to be able to learn and do certain task, which could become part of our daily routine or just as an overview of what people do in our department or elsewhere in the building. This shows how Engie puts its faith in employee development more than anything.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot. If every I've need help or anything explained to me I've been given everything I need. This was particularly important when first starting as I didn't have much knowledge about what I was doing. My team members being ok with making mistakes was also really helpful.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I've been given all the help I need from my training provider, whether it be from help inside the classroom or over email. The Osborne textbooks we use are also very good at explaining theory and putting it in plain English. They also include practise exams in the back of the books which I a very good revision source

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like I have improved mainly because I can link some of what I'm doing to the theory we've learned at college, which helps me understand the role I play in the bigger picture, instead of just doing why role and not questioning why I'm doing it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are opportunities to join social activities at Engie, for example, there is a dinner club once a month where we pick a restaurant to eat at on a weekend and is just a really good way of getting to know your colleagues better. There are often events the people take part in on Friday's at work mainly.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Equans to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Engie is a very employee friendly company, who do their best to make work as light hearted as possible and really do go the extra mile to make sure you are happy at work. I can't think of a single person who I do not enjoy working with. Also flexible working hours is very handy.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Equans?
  • Be confident in your interview and try and show how friendly you are, particularly with apprentices grades aren't everything and they will be looking to recruit people who will make the workplace a brighter place. If there is an examination day, try and talk to people as much as possible in group activities as well.
