  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Lots of tasks, Firstly my apprenticeship is broken into multiple sections and different areas and types of work that goes on here on site. I am currently doing my environmental stint and that involves looking over our plastics use on site on the carbon emissions and solvents used on site and help monitor our Waste water plant. This involves daily interactions with lots of different people from lots of areas on site.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learning a lot in my college course as usually would tend to stray away from chemistry but have found it very interesting and refreshing to do. At work there's lots of different software in which we use from Aspen to Power BI to video editing software and excel skills. This is all very fun and relevant to the job role in what I do as it helps me monitor safety activations and help the plant continue to be safe

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Extremely well, my course is broken down into quarters and within each quarter I will find out what I will be doing the departments I will be helping/ the skills im going to learn and if so how many qualifications I will gain from that specific unit. College is also broken down into similar ways and there is always support offered if ever found to be struggling

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Absolutely tons, I have mentor meetings set up once a month and the same with my line manager about progress and concerns but they operate a open door policy and I can go to them whenever about concerns or where I can find help about certain things I'm stuck at

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I am receiving a monthly check up and continuous emails from SVQ and college about my progress and help with any upcoming tests or exams, The training provider will also arrange to meet at college for a catch up about how I'm getting on and if there's anything I'm struggling with within college or the SVQ

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification I'm doing through SVQ is a health and safety within the workplace and it really goes hand in hand with my role as this helps me to learn and develop current skills and learn new ones as this is a deep dive into challenging what I do in a day to day basis

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

  • 9a. Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • In my opinion one of the best companies to work for as the development opportunities are never ending and the support for apprentices are always amazing, the pay and benefits within the company are great and are highly inciting to someone my age as it easily covers anything and is a very good wage for someone my age

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • To research the company and see what your getting into, and to practice what you want to say to GSK as you want to make sure you give them a good idea of who you really are and how you work. And to finally be yourself and honest with answers
