  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. My apprenticeship started with a year at college learning the basic principles of instrumentation, now I am developing that knowledge into practical skills I can use in the work place to be a competent trades person. Skills I have learned include practical skills, communication skills and knowledge of various instruments.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the apprenticeship program at GSK as there are so many opportunities to advance my career. There are also trips for the apprentices every year to improve your personal development. These trips include a week at the lake district in the first year which helps strengthen team building qualities you can then use in your day to day work life.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is pretty organised overall, however there are some aspects which can be improved, such as when approved for an extra course- for example learning an extra trade, it would be better organised if there was a clear set time frame for when you will get the experience to work in that other industry. Often it is not communicated well.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, apprentices are expected to get involved and plan 'orange days' these are days dedicated to giving back to the local community. We hold regular apprentice meetings and plan these orange days which are always worth while and rewarding. Some examples of orange days we have done include helping at the food bank and helping at the community gardens.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because when working at GSK there are so many opportunities other employers simply do not offer. GSK are a great company to work for and have an excellent apprentice program. The fact GSK is a pharmaceutical company is also a reason I would recommend it as with every task you do you are contributing to making life saving medicine which is so rewarding.

  • Really understand the values and expectations of the company before applying, ensure you can adapt and use these values in your day to day life. Try to be open minded to trying new things and really push yourself to go outside your comfort zone. Ensure you are committed and determined to do well.
