1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work-shadow a scrum team and am learning the system architecture and programming languages they use, to eventually work as a developer within their team. I also work on smaller, interesting side projects related to software engineering, spend one day a week studying, and interact with stakeholders in the business.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've learnt Javascript and best practices around developing the front end and some of the back end of their website. I've also gained an ITIL qualification, learnt about business strategy, how to engage senior stakeholders at a high level and how to present my ideas in meetings.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The company culture is absolutely fantastic, very friendly and supportive. My team and my manager are happy to support me with my learning. I find the work engaging, although it felt a little slow to be given work and a mentor in the beginning. Thoroughly enjoy the programme.

4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

Initially, the induction, initial training and task delegation was intermittent and slow - however this has now picked up. I have regular meetings with my mentor and line manager, and work happily in an agile scrum team. I've had plenty of opportunity for training and studying.

5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have complete support from my line manager and HR's door is always open - they also schedule fun learning opportunities and socialising events with other TUI apprentices.

6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I've had a lot of great guidance with problems from my course leader and have enjoyed my assignments. I find my course interesting and the topics very up-to-date with the industry.

7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The assignments encourage learning about modern practices and how software engineering works within your company, which has really helped me develop a solid foundation on which to add more tech knowledge and skills. I feel I've gained an appreciation for my role by understanding its context.

8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are social events for teams, such as bowling or go-karting, christmas parties, and voluntary initiatives such as the TUI Care Foundation.

Yes
