  • Overseeing staff and working in a busy pub restaurant. Stock taking, liaising with general manager and area manager. Customer service, complaint handling, cash handling, banking and report reading. Monitoring food leaving the kitchen to make sure it's to spec. Liquor ordering and seeing in the deliveries. I am also a key holder

  • Time management Business planning Managing a project in improving clears and voids for the area. Staff management and coaching skills. Learning to prioritise tasks through the urgent and important tool. Learning styles and how they can be included in team meetings. Facilitating team meetings and creating agendas. Financial planning and budgeting

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It was difficult to find the balance of working full time and studying but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like to challenge myself and I enjoy learning new skills and developing myself. My tutor from lifetime was wonderful and very supportive. It felt good to be challenged in a different way

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The balance of workshops, work to do at home and work to so with my tutor was good. I only had one visit cancelled which was positive as I know they have a lot of people to see. The workshops were difficult at times as it was based in a venue 3 hours away from home so 6 hour round trip meant I was tired

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive and made sure I could attend all the dates for workshops and worked ny rota around my visits. He helped me with everything I needed for the course work and made sure I knew he was approachable if I needed extra help or support with anything

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I had frequent email and phone contact from my tutor as well as a call from a representative of the company to ask if I felt I needed any extra support to help me study. My tutor left as I was entering end point assessment but the gentleman who was assigned to me in her absence was very helpful friendly and supportive

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it has given me more confidence in my role as well as being able to develop the team that I manage. I have learnt new ways of working that help me in my role and make me more efficient as well as enhancing the skills I already had

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have opportunities to develop the events we have in the place where I work such as quizzes and indoor market events. I am more involved in social media promotion and I attend area meetings as well as being a champion for Macmillan fundraising in our area which covers 16 pubs

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I initially started with a view of staying with the company for 6 to 12 months and I have now been with them for 5 years. I look forward to going to work and they support me in my role and with my development. The team benefits are great and higher management are approachable.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Be honest and be yourself. They will assist you in all training both practical and academic and take advantage of opportunities that are offered to you. I started part time on the bar and I am now an assistant manager with a view to one day getting my own pub.
