  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the team I work in, there is a very collaborative culture. I am comfortable enough to approach the directors and partner in any situations which I know isnt common in other companies. All the members of my team are keen on getting me involved in any project or task whenever I can, such as projects, team meetings, client work etc. There is a lot of networking and development events that take place so i am always meeting new people and learning new skills. Working at BDO has exceeded my expectations, it is definitely the most collaborative working environment i have been in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very structured. It started off with a induction with all graduates/school leavers in London which involved team exercises, receiving information about our streams and qualification. I also had a week training based on the specific department I was in which involved all graduates coming together from the UK. This involved role play, written exercises, learning how to use the softwares and hearing from current graduates experience. There is a lot of study support, classes at BPP university, a lot of study leave and resources to help us with the course. As well as having a councelling manager I am also allocated a buddy so there is a lot of available support. Although I have these allocated to me I also know I am able to go to all members of team when needed as everyone is very welcoming and helpful. Although there is a team hierarchy, sometimes you forget that a hierarchy exists as everyone is treated the same regardless of what grade role you are.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a lot of support available. There hasn't been a situation where I have felt like i have no one to turn to. It is all very accessible via our online portal, all information of support in different areas are there. Everyone has a councelling manager who they can directly go to in any situations regarding work and personal life. We also have a buddy allocated to us which is another graduate in the year above who has already been through the process i am currently going through so any concerns i can go to them. We also have regular catch ups with the partner in your own department, and we are also allocated to a partner in another department. Which gives us the chance to have a casual conversation and get to know the partners in the organisation.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There is a lot of support and development opportunities here. It is a place where i am comfortable to have a conversation with anyone no matter what their position is. Everyone is very supportive, i am always getting involved in what other team members are doing so there are a lot of opportunities to try out new things and develop new skills.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
  • To be yourself throughout the whole process. The main thing BDO look out for is how are you are as a person and if you are an individual who likes to collaborate and always find new ways of working. Although having a good degree/education/relevant experience is good, it doesnt really matter if you dont have the peoples skills and are not interesting in supporting your colleagues as well as yourself. This is the main thing they look out for throughout the whole process especially in the interviews and group task in the assessment centre.
