  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Initial 21 weeks in residential training where we are developing the skills and attitude we need to prepare us for our career in the railway. This has included some theory based modules including electrical principles and also some practical assignments like electrical maintenance and wiring and testing. This is all done in a base at Coventry

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Whilst it has helped me to develop some academic skills it is also teaching us about team work and having a consciousness for health and safety! This is also a good experience to learn some life skills living away from home and it’s a great opponent to meet new people and make new friends.

  • There are lots of support avenues at Westwood and in the wider world.

  • After work sessions and regular reviews help to keep us on track!

  • Whilst not always seeming necessary I think the training provider is providing us with general skills we will use in every day engineering

  • There are lots of extra curricular activities including football, squash, swimming, pool tournaments and quiz nights.

  • Yes

  • A great company who looks after you and makes you feel like you’re a big part of the future.

  • Make sure you have an eye for team work and are health and safety conscious!
