  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role see's me proactive and reactively fixing issues on the BT Network, I am currently based on 20c Transmission which is the BT's legacy Network. From day to day I cooperate with Engineers to re-seat. change cards and resolve issues on the Network, which is an exciting experience.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout my current time at BT I have learnt a lot of new skills and built on existing one's. My confidence in speaking has definitely improved due to speaking on the phone with Engineers, this requires me to speak calm and coherently so the Engineer knows what I want doing. My organisation skills have improved a lot too with me having to keep up with deadlines for University but also with work related deadlines too. These two skills are ones that I feel I have most improved on with my time in my apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would say I really enjoy my apprenticeship programme, I have been given an amazing opportunity to learn skills in an ever growing industry, I find it really exciting working for such a huge and well known company. I sometimes get stressed with University work, but that is going to come with any apprenticeship programme, but it is all worth it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure and organisation could be improved, sometimes the University side is unorganised with multiple lecture's being given to us, which can make it feel unorderly. In terms of work related rotations I would say it is organised and put together well. Our occupational brief is also quite unorganised and we often go without important information on what to do with it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would say I receive a good amount of support from my immediate line manager, he cares about what we want to get from this experience and that makes me feel good. I would say from the overall employer support is also very good and I am satisfied with the support I receive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Support in this area as I said earlier could be improved, University sometimes lacks in communication with us students and that can make you feel anxious on what to do. support from our assessors is quite poor too, with some people going without monthly reviews. I could receive more support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I would say that the occupational brief is useless in helping us perform better, and I don't see why it is even there, however University is very beneficial in my opinion and having a knowledge from Uni helps in the day to day role a lot and I like it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes definitely, there are a lot of activities to get involved in, I usually help out a lot in volunteering which involved schools coming to Adastral and doing technological stuff, I like to give back and use my platform to do this, there is also a gym here in which you can get involved with. Me and my colleagues at work go out for meals every month which I enjoy.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great place to start your career or change your career to, the opportunities here are unmatched and I feel it is a great place to work. The environment is friendly and everyone is welcoming when you start, along with the degree being a great incentive too. A great place to work!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would say make sure to show why you are passionate, the last thing they want to see is someone come across boring and not interested. Be yourself too, don't try and be something you are not, as you have a interview over the screen before an actual interview it is important to make sure you show the real you.
