  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job as an apprentice account manager, is to look and search into new business and making contact with these businesses to build a relationship with them. Once you have built the relationship with the IT Manager of the business, you can then find out their needs and supply a solution to structure and maintain their IT within the business. On top of this we have regular sales training and technical training to help us along the way. Softcat helps you along the way and support you with any additional help you may have, which makes it such a lovely place to work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • There is multiple skills I have learnt already in the 6 months I have been here at Softcat. The main one being communication skills, which is a key skill to have with having to cold call being the main part of the job. Being on the sales floor has also improved my initiative by having to take charge of situations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • This programme is one of the best things to happen in my career, as I was stuck in a job that had no progression and I didn’t think I would get out of it. The Softcat Apprenticeship programme helped me get of this job, which I cant thank enough for giving me a career to look forward to.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship programmes structure is very clear and organised, and this is helped with Softcat and Remit. There is not one moment in my time here so far where I haven’t been confused or not know what I am doing. If I am confused you are not questioned or looked at for asking questions, nothing is a silly question.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support we get from Softcat is undoubtedly the best the support I think I would ever get in any job, which is why I would love to stay at Softcat for as long as I can. Not just the support from Softcat themselves but the colleagues you work with as well are always happy to help as long as they have the time, so there is always someone you can talk to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards our qualifications, such as our coursework. We get support from our Remit instructor/trainer he is always a phone call away and if he doesn’t answer he will call back or he will get back to you via email and he will help you out with whatever.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training provider, helps me perform better as it provides training for my actual job role and you find yourself listening and taking it in more as it is something you actually care about and with it being your job and career you take more seriously. With the regular training it helps keep fresh in your mind and so you can perform better in your role

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is countless amount of extra-curricular activities at work. Whether this being Monday night football where you get to socialise with some member of Softcat that you have never seen before. We also have our regular Kick Off events for us apprentices which helps us stay in touch with the other apprentices, which is good as we can go through and learn from each other

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would 100% recommend Softcat to a friend, as it such a great place to work and such a good career path to take. It is also great to recommend to people just coming out of school and not wanting to know what to do other than go uni, I would recommend Softcat over uni everyday.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • The tips I would give when joining Softcat, would be to just be yourself. Everyone is open to everything at this job. I would also say not to be worried about anything, it is easy to be overwhelmed with a new job and career like this, but you are in safe hands and you have to support to achieve anything you want.
