  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working with a team on audit engagements to provide a service for a client. My responsibilities involved using my accounting and audit skills. I worked out on client sites to provide the client with a face to face experience. My daily tasks involved completing spreadsheets with the coaching from my seniors to audit the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a considerable amount of new skills, from learning PwC processes and developing my excel knowledge to improving the way I speak with corporate clients. I have learned how to complete PwC work papers and speak with the service delivery centres to complete all of the expected work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The flying start programme is great because we have 3 three month placements with PwC integrated into our university degree. This gives us the opportunity to put what we have learned into practise, and provides us a basis to build up our knowledge and use workplace skills to help with university exams.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised, both at university and at Pwc. Our university studies are very relevant to our work at PwC. We have a programme director that organises the course at university and a similar person at PwC so both parts of the course are very well organised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have the flying start champs, a career coach and there are many other flying starts in the business. These are all very approachable and provide support with any issues we have while on placement. We have regular meetings with our career coach to talk about our development, feedback and well-being.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • University of Nottingham do provide support while at university but there are alot of students so sometimes it is difficult to get personal support. However on the whole university are supportive while we are there, the staff related to the course are very approachable and we meet with our tutors to discuss progress.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Our studies at university are very relevant to the work we do while on placement. University studies provide us with a basis of knowledge that we can adapt while at PwC to make it appropriate to the specific client we are working on. The knowledge we learn at university has been very helpful on my placement.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are social groups at PwC that put on events and social networking activities. Flying starts are encouraged to get involved in these dependent upon other working commitments you have at the time. While I was on placement, there was dodgeball, netball, football, the Christmas party and many other organised events at local pubs.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • PwC is a good company to work for, despite the long hours on some clients. Most of the managers are approachable and help with your development through coaching. There are many other flying starts that you can speak to about other aspects of work and they organise socials so everyone can get to know each other.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • The flying start course at Nottingham is good because you get work experience while at university and have the chance to gain a full time job with PwC upon graduation. This is a great incentive to study hard at university and work hard while on placement. The course is applied for through UCAS as normal and then an interview day takes place at the university with university and PwC staff. This is hard but it is important to be confident in your ability and skills.
