  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Sitting in on meetings on a project that I had quite a large involvement with. Going away, working on the project and then organising talks with the team in order to report back on what I had done. Helping other members of the company with smaller bits of work and providing some help in that regard.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned plenty. Some of the more softer skills I have learned include: communication, team-working, confidence, presenting. On the tech-y side of things, the company have introduced me to a lot of useful industry tools that will help me in the future. They also have supported me in my development towards certifications which are offer proof of the skills gained.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I found it very enjoyable so far. At the beginning it was a little slow but quickly picked up once the teams figured out what we could help with and got a feel of our skills. Everyone was incredibly kind and approachable which made it very easy to work as well as get along with everyone. Everyone provided a level of confidence in us even though we were new and hadn't done anything like it before. Like we were all young and sometimes you can be kind of pushed aside for that reason, but that wasn't what happened at PwC which was great.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As mentioned before, the start was a little washy but quickly resolved itself. In my team there were three apprentices and we were all taking hold of one project. I worked along side apprentices all the way up to senior management on my project, as well as having the opportunity to present my work to directors. There was a support structure in place but I never used it. The support I got was from simply messaging coworkers asking them the best course of action for specific issues.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Plenty. Again I mentioned it before but most of my support came from asking team members. Never had to deal with HR or anything. I did have an accident at the end of the placement which meant I was only able to work from home and PwC was incredibly supportive and allowed me to do this. I was still integrated into the team and still had lots of work given to do.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I mean, during the uni. year, there wasn't really all that much from PwC's side but there really didn't need to be. There were opportunities that PwC gave which were great, talks from members as well as some tech demos, but they kind of left us to work independently of the company. Some say this wasn't ideal as they'd like to be included more but I found it to be fine. They didn't need to interfere with uni stuff as we already had a load to do.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It definitely takes the load off from a financial and therefore a stress side of things. I do not enjoy having to take or borrow money from people so having to take a loan is quite a worry for me. Having this opportunity to just work on whatever I'm doing at the time and not having to worry about much is great, definitely allows me to work more effectively. The skills I learned during this 10 week placement will also transfer over into the time I am not there. Either with the soft skills I learned allowing me to try new experiences, or through keeping up-to-date with real industry tools, prepping me for the future

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yeah, there are a few but I didn't really get involved with any of that. There is a monthly meetup for drinks and such, other people introduced me to other networking events. They offered us quite a few chances to go and speak to the new cohort of apprentices which was nice.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is just a very good place to work. Everyone is supportive of you and will help you develop whatever you want to develop. As the network is so broad at PwC, if you want to get to know something better, someone at PwC will be involved with it and able to help.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Everything at PwC is about teamwork. You have to be able to effectively communicate with your team and understand how to get the most out of them. A certain level of confidence is needed and I need to work on that personally, but being at PwC has helped me out in that already.
