  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role involves assisting the Customer Liaison Officers with administration tasks such as entering data on spreadsheets and the company systems, sending out emails and letters, making telephone calls to customers, visiting sites and customers. I also help in other sectors of the business with the Run2Academy and site managers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I've learnt new things within the company regarding the water industry. I've learnt new ways of using Excel, Word etc. I've learnt more about the legal side of this role, as an example GDPR as this is essential in my role as photographs are taken of community volunteering we do and addresses that need to be logged.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying the programme I am on as it allows me to widen my opportunities and skills within the company. It is also allowing me to see different sides of the industry and sectors that I may want to learn more about and gain more skills for future job opportunities within JN Bentley.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel as though if I needed support and had any questions, I would get help with this. However, there are times in my Apprenticeship where I feel as though I could do with some guidance on how my apprenticeship is going and have some more reviews. All in all though, the company are always there for you and can't do enough for you. If there is anything you need there is always someone to ask.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I constantly have support from my colleagues in the office and everyone is there to help each other if anyone needs it. However, I do feel as though I could use some extra support from the Training Department at my company as in my office we don't have anyone that works here full time to support the apprentices. They are mainly based in the head office which isn't local to me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is supportive and get back to me with any questions that I have within a day or two. There has been no issues within my programme, and they offer me guidance and support when I need it. My assessor will send new work over to do in-between visits which allows me to keep on track with my work and what I am doing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as though my training provider helps me notice knowledge that I have gained without realising by asking me to give examples of work I have been doing. This helps boost my confidence in the work I am doing. Also by giving me short exams to see what my strengths and weakness' are within my role allows me to focus on the things I need to improve on.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, I am involved in the Early Career Professionals group within the company. We help organise events for the companies employees to get involved in. These events can be held in the office such as Bake Sales for Charity, or can be social events outside of work such as sport activities or other activities, such as work nights out whether it be bowling or social gatherings. By being part of the ECP, it is allowing me to expand my knowledge on different areas of the social side of work. This will also benefit me in my career as it is giving me experience on organising and time keeping.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JN Bentley to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • JN Bentley is a great company to work for. They are a very professional company and have a wide range of sectors for your career to progress in. There is always someone willing to support you or help you with any queries you may have. I would highly recommend JN Bentley to a friend.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JN Bentley?
  • I would advise researching the different sectors of the company you could have a career in. There are so many different opportunities it is a good idea to see if there are any job roles that may be suited to you within the company. I'd also advise speaking to the Training Department about the structure of your apprenticeship so you have an idea of what your job role will entail and to keep on top of your progress.
