  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I head up and lead the Finance team, managing data, development analytics and reporting across the organisation. Leading major change transformation programmes in both Finance and Data development to re-platform the insurance suite and creating robust data and reporting processes across the organisation. I create a strategic approach to financial reporting across the business and data / information integrity across the group.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to think more strategically and have brought this in to my day to day thinking, behaviours and operations in work. My team are now more agile, driving and achieving high performance and achieving greater levels / more successful change throughout the organisation. My relationship with stakeholders has improved and I am able to influence better - making better decisions for the organisation - particularly through creating a vision and clear goals for me and my team to work towards.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed my programme and felt that it gave me a well rounded knowledge and experience to leadership. Saga allowed me to apply my learning's on major projects and really put it to the test. Being on the apprenticeship gave me the knowledge and confidence to do this and the support from my apprenticeship manager and QA was amazing - couldn't have asked for more.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme structure and organisation was great. The modules are clear and link in well together. The programme run by Saga and QA was perfectly tailored to me, the organisation and application within the workplace. It challenged well, was relevant and ensured there were development actions / opportunities to apply learning. The support from both Saga and QA really helped to direct me, keep me on track and push me to perform.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Saga allowed me to apply my learning and really supported me with mentors, apprenticeship managers, support from learning managers (from external suppliers) and ample opportunities to apply learning in the real world. The support from both Saga and QA really helped to direct me, keep me on track and push me to perform, both on the programme and in the workplace.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The programme run by Saga and QA was perfectly tailored to me, the organisation and application within the workplace. QA as a training provider challenged well, ensured the course was relevant and ensured there were development actions / opportunities to apply learning. They understood the pressures of an organisation and work, but also helped me to see how the work and learning I was doing could help me in the workplace too

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have learnt how to think more strategically and have brought this in to my day to day thinking, behaviours and operations in work. I feel more confident in myself, what I'm doing and how to lead my team / the organisation to be more successful. I push my team further and have seen increased engagement, productivity and performance.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are Finance forums, senior leaders events, senior leader training courses and several social events including trips away / overseas and theatre trips. Each year Saga puts on a great summer family day and award ceremonies to recognise great talent within the organisation. It really is a great place to work.

  • Yes

  • There's a great opportunity to learn, develop and grow within Saga. The learning and development team are great and the leadership team within Saga really help and support you to do well. They challenge where appropriate and help get the best out of you, but also give you an environment where you can be the best you can be.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Saga plc?
  • Be confident in yourself and really drive for change and high performance. Saga is a great place to work and has amazing opportunities for you to grow and develop both professionally and as a person. Chase the opportunities, really get involved and you will do really well. Saga is a great place to work and the apprenticeship is a great way to build your experience and really do well.
