First year apprentice Review

For my first 5 months I am staying in the training school where learn about track safety and maintenance tasks. I get given a fair amount of work and get plenty of time to do my assignments. I learn fault finding techniques as well as the importance of doing things safely

I have learnt a few different skills and I have gained my knowledge on the railway and the importance of track safety. I have learned all about the existing factors that can cause fatal injuries and how to avoid them the best way possible. I have also gained knowledge on what my role includes

The programme I am doing can be intense at times and can get a little bit boring at times when doing the education side of things however I really enjoy the practical sessions and the ability to be able to work on something that will improve my future career with the company

We have lessons for the first 5 months in a training school and an intense rate where we are tested and assessed to ensure we do jobs correctly and safely I feel that it is a lot to take In how ever if you focus your can progress through your career

I really receive so much support from my employer that I am so grateful for: they also help me with my assessments by making sure that I understand every thing before hand I feel that I learn a lot and it is relevant to what I do in my job

I get to learn the knowledge that will help me with my job role. For example working safely on the track will mean that I don’t injure myself or others and I also get the opportunity to make sure tools are correct and safe to use before using them

Although I don’t have that much time as I am always studying there usually is some events that take place. I am sure there are a lot of networking events where every one can share information and knowledge together and learn about the company and how it is run

They treat everyone with respect and train people to the best they can I feel like the company has a good reputation and a lot of contracts around the uk giving people who work there a lot to work towards with options to progress and work their way up a ladder

Structure your cv and approach the job professionally, practice for the assessments and try your hardest with everything, it’s good to be sensible when making decisions and knowing what you want to gain from your apprenticeship and career. I would also suggest doing research on the company and seeing if their interests match yours
