  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an ecosystem solution architect. On a day to day basis I am joining calls with Accenture partners to learn about their new technology offerings. I am asked to research what technology to use to solve different client problems. I look at RFPs, join daily calls working on them. I join calls to learn how to size, price and license different products. I help to create materials to present to clients on their different options for tech vendors

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developed research, writing, communication and analytical skills. My role includes a lot of learning, so i have developed the skills needed to learn, take notes, listen and ask questions etc. Mostly i feel like it has been an experience where I have developed and built upon existing skills, as to teach entirely new ones is more challenging. For example, it is quite hard to get started and be taught a new hard skill like coding on projects as they mostly just need someone who can do the task fast.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it a lot when I feel like my level of experience is understood and catered for, the apprenticeship is a learning experience and it is very enjoyable when you are working with the right people. I like the social side, the fact that I have a reasonably sized group of peers to rely on and make connections with makes it a much more enjoyable experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is a little disorganised. Just that it is very hard to actually get a project (to get 'off the bench') and even harder to get a project that you are interested in, often someone will get a developer role while someone else gets a project management role when both of them would have ideally liked to have each others role, just due to it not really being taken into consideration. The university provider is very unorganised, with coursework specifications, dates and times etc changing very last minute, often.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • You receive quite a lot of support. There are a lot of people you can talk to, for example, your peers, career counsellor, manager, tfs, hr. I havent personally had this experience as I have mostly had projects, but sometimes I know other apprentices havent felt like their career aspirations are taken into account when getting onto a project, because projects are limited and there are a lot of people on the bench.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Again, we receive a reasonable amount of support from our training provider. They are quite receptive to feedback which helps improve the experience for future years and they mostly respond to questions. The only lack of support is that some of the lecturers do not seem very skillful at teaching, but they are mostly supportive where help is needed i think.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it helps very well. The qualification is a mix of business and technology which is exactly what we need within our roles. One of our coursework assignments was actually something that I do on a day to day basis - a comparison of two technology vendors. So that was good to practice.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are lots of networking events, almost constantly and they are normally really good for meeting new people. We also have social events, at christmas, summer etc which are really good for coming all together and as it is a big organisation, seeing people you may not have seen in a long time. There are also lots of groups to join.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because if you want to learn a lot more than you would learn by doing a degree alone it is a good option. If you feel ready for work and have a passion for technology then you will most likely find something you can enjoy. Accenture culture is nice and people centric and they clearly care about the apprenticeship scheme

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • Make sure you have a passion for technology and all the different areas it is used. That you join with an open mind to what kind of work may help you develop. I would advise to speak to multiple apprentices on the program to try and see if you think it would be for you, get a variety of perspectives as each of our experiences are quite different
