  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role envolves working in the leathershop, sewing and covering. I work in various zones to get experience in all areas of the leathershop. I am required to help in different areas to learn all the processes of the car through the area. 2 days a week are spent at college too.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to sew, cover, laminate, gringind and embossing, skiving, hide mark, embroidery... Lots more. Looking back I am surprised how many different things I have learnt already. You are also given the opportunity to work on the computers which helps with my it skills. Rolls royce is a large company which is great to help with communicational skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying my apprentiship alot, the company is great and everyone is really friendly. I have reccommended the company to several of my friends already. I have learnt alot of skills and met a huge amount of people. The programme is a good way to network and learn more in depth things about the company than you would if you were and associate.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There is good structure to the apprentiship although it could be better and more clear at times. I go through stages where I know what im suppose to do and that others are aware that I am entering their zone. But I also go through stages where people have no idea what to do with me!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We are very lucky to get alot of support from the company. We have monthly meetings with our trainer and our boss which is really helpful and it gives me reasurrance to know that they are up to date with my progression. I know that if I had any issues inside or outside of work there would always be someone I could talk to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Medium amount. We have handed in alot of work, done a few exams but have had no feed back at all of how we have done so far or how well our work has been. It would be nice to have had some feed back about how we have done since the beginning of the course.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I wouldnt say our college work benefits us at Rolls Royce at all. I would learn more about my job roll working full time at rolls royce than spending 2 days a week at college. I do enjoy college though as I learn new skills that I can use in the future.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, we are currently helping with a green power project which envolves building a go kart for a local school to race in an annual event. We have been able to help with family day projects when we first started in our job. We have also been invited to outside events however I was unable to attend them.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Its a good company to work for and really good pay. There are lots of opportunities to progress through the company aswell. The hours are tricky at first but once you get used to your early starts it becomes much easier and is good for those with a busy life style as you have plenty of time in the afternoon to do your own things.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Be yourself and dont try to be something you are not! Try your hardest and dont give up. The application is lengthly compared to other interviews I have had in the past. I would advise people to research the company and have basic knowledge on the cars that we are making.
