  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a mechanical and electrical engineer apprentice, my day to day workings vary from day to day. Some days I am working on site doing works and others I can be in the site office helping the site manager to run the site and complete orders and paper work. Lately I have been helping with the designing of electrical layouts and it helps open up a large area of engineering not everyone gets to experience.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • since starting I have worked closely with the MEP project lead as well as lots of the MEP site managers. I have developed my skill set both working on site and in the office. I am now able to design and draw up a wiring diagram for lighting and with the help of others I can decide what materials will be needed to complete the job.

  • I have had problems with my particular programme starting up as the training provider have struggled to get a curriculum together but, J N Bentley have tried to keep me going in my learning going best they can without the curriculum and taught me what they believe would be a acceptable skill.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • in the derby area, we don't have any extra curricular activities as we are a small framework so we don't hold any extra curricular activities. Within the company in other areas there are activities held but, it is too far for me to travel for an evening a week.

  • 9a. Would you recommend JN Bentley to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I enjoy the company and the way it works, although my course has been delayed a lot I still think that jnb is a good company to work for and I have learned a lot about how to handle clients and so forth so for this reason I would yes

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JN Bentley?
  • Apply for the role that you know you'll enjoy but, if you start in that role and don't enjoy it, fear not as it is fairly easy to move around the company and the team will happily help you find the job you prefer. also when you start try and get as much experience with everything that your job role could lead on to so you know where you want to specialise in after your apprenticeship
