  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My customer behaviour apprentice role consists of a variety of tasks which vary from day to day. I am responsible for collecting insights across the business from various different insight areas such as web analytics, merchandising, commercial and customer experience. with the data, I collate I am able to pull out key themes to inform key stakeholders of where we should focus our efforts. As part of this collation process I am in charge of our survey function for the business this involves talking to both customer and noncustomers to understand their opinions and behaviours so that we are always keeping our customers at the heart of our decision making. I also am in charge of running our survey function for the business to allow the team to be the most effective voice for customers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout the apprenticeship, I have learnt many different skills some specialist to specific roles and others that are more transferrable. Examples of this include having to learn about PPC and SEO when I was on my previous digital marketing apprenticeship, this are more role specific. I have also been able to develop myself personally through my confidence and my resilience and learning to adapt to new situations and opportunities which are skills that I will continue to help me grow and develop for years to come.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my previous program and am really enjoying my current one. It has not always been the easiest process to have been a part of as there have been some barriers and areas that I struggled with however the syllabus I have a keen interest in and so I felt I really thrived in the process.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My current program is a lot better structured and organised than my previous one. They appear to have everything in order, we know what we need to cover overall, we know roughly when our sessions for workshops will be planned in and it's great that they allow you to take control of your learning. However, I do still feel like there could be more done to help plan in evidencing times as it can be difficult requesting time with other departments due to workloads.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • my employer is extremely supportive of me in my apprentice journey. Not many businesses would pay for me to complete a qualification as well as pay for me to complete my Duke of Edinburgh Gold. The people that you work with are always open to helping you and will always make time to teach you something or even allow you to shadow them if need be.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider does well to provide us with coaches and trainers that have experience in the chosen fields background. For example, I completed my functional English with a coach who had been teaching for over 12 years. Another example of this is my coach who has had previous experience as a data analyst, making it easier for me to talk to someone and understand what it is I need to include in my portfolio.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification I have chosen to do could not be more relevant to my job role. Every part of it so far is something that I do in my day to day role, I am not having to go out of my way to find evidence or experiences for my portfolio. Despite this though I am still learning more in-depth on how I could be completing tasks more effectively and I look forward to learning Python (a computing language) as this is a skill that is lacking within my team which would mean that the analysis that we currently do will be improved and could be made more valuable.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of opportunities to take part in socialising with our colleagues both inside and outside of work. We have always had events at work at a specific time of the year, for example, this easter we held an egg pong match with our leadership team. Another example has been team building activities like in the past my team and I got to go to the crystal maze in Manchester to develop our teams relationships.

  • 9a. Would you recommend AO to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe that there is never ending opportunities for growth at AO. I have the most supportive people and the team behind me always encouraging me to learn and develop. There is always someone you can go to if you need help with anything and at AO we treat each other more like a work-family rather than just colleagues.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AO?
  • Make sure that you relax and be your most authentic self and make sure you take control of your learning and really live and breathe the values as much as everyone else. As long as you show that you have a growth mindset and are willing to work hard and push yourself you will achieve great things.
