  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My daily tasks involve answering the team phones and working with field engineers integrating new equipment into the network, this also includes upgrading current equipment and maintaining existing to make sure everything is working perfectly. Currently I am responsible for the ultrafast connectivity's in the team and I am the single point of contact/lead on this project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have furthered my people skills working within a team and continually work on these on a daily basis dealing with both internal and external customers. I have learnt technical skills as I am working on software and equipment I have never seen before - I am constantly developing these skills as there are new things being introduced frequently.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the atmosphere that I work within and the opportunities that I have been provided with - college and functional skills training. There are also a number of volunteering opportunities posted which we are encouraged to take part in. I am incredibly happy that I applied for this programme as I enjoy the daily work and opportunities I am provided with.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured as college is set out in weekly blocks that we attend with other apprentices within the business. We are given all the help and support needed to successfully complete the course. Aswell as college I also studied for ICT functional skills, my apprentice coach made sure I had all the training material I needed and that I was happy studying for the test.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider was always available to help with the work I was completing even when I was away from campus. This provided to be incredibly helpful when completing assignments at home as I could always email my lecturer who would happily explain something and if I needed additional help he would remember to explain it next time I was in class.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I learnt about various networking structures that helped me understand how BTs network runs, I was then able to understand how what I do in my day to day role fits into the company. I like being able to see where my work fits into the company as it shows the impact myself and my team have.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are various networking opportunities and my apprenticeship coach always communicates these and asks if it is something we would like to attend. We are also given opportunities to go to schools and talk about the companies apprenticeship programme and about our personal experience. I have also taken part in a careers fair to talk to GCSE students about the apprenticeship programme.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have really enjoyed my time here and would like to build a career. The working environment is friendly and everyone that I have come across is always happy to help. The application process isn't stressful at all and you are continually provided with assistance and guidance throughout your apprenticeship.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Ultimately the application handlers are looking at you as an individual, not always at what qualifications you have or what is on your CV. Be yourself and talk about you specifically - what drives you, your experiences etc... Don't stress, take your time in answering and you can ask for the question to be repeated as many times as you like. You will not be rushed at all!
