1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

The basis of my role is to find, extract and put together data. I put them into reports either manually of through an automated process to make the data easy to read and break down for the customer. I also use coding programmes to build data reports and select the right data for the task.

Other activities I manage which may not be as obvious when looking at the job role, include Process Documentation, which is the process of updating work instructions and processes to make sure they're all new and relevant, and in the correct format.

I have also got College and NVQ assignments, which all contribute to the development and progress of my apprenticeship.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt quickly about different programmes. Excel was one of the first, which I had used before but did not have the knowledge I have now, in terms of being able to use functions such as V-Lookup etc.

I have also learned how to code using SQL, how to build customer reports in Report Builder, how to edit websites using SharePoint, and I recently passed my ITIL exam which is a Business Guidance Programme.

I also feel I have been more organised since joining BT, time management is something I have needed to keep on top of in order to do my job efficiently.

However I'm only a few months into my Apprenticeship so I am expecting to learn more as I go.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship programme so far. It has made me more confident and aware in the workplace, as BT's efficiency and core is based around teamwork, and helping out your co-workers whenever they need it. I've really felt the benefit of this, as being an apprentice can be challenging when you don't know what you're doing.

The programme itself has been enjoyable, both the office and college work has been interesting and I'm looking forward to getting to know more.

4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

In my opinion, my programme is structured well, as it has a great essence of time and letting me develop as an apprentice. I spent my first few months in the office, getting an idea of how everything works, and getting to know the people around me. Then once I had settled in at work, I have been going to Stoke College every couple of weeks, giving me a nice balance of learning in and out of the workplace.

5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my Employer. Regular one to ones are set up at the end of each month, where we discuss my achievements and targets. In this meeting we discuss my development as an apprentice, what the next steps are and just a general catch up on my work, to make sure I'm not feeling like I have too much or too little to do in the office.

I also have received plenty of equipment to do my job efficiently. Including 2 laptops, 2 screens, headphones, and even a bag to store them all in. The support has been great to ensure I get off to the best start in my career.

6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

To be honest, the support from my training provider had a slow start, and it was difficult trying to organise the first couple of dates to meet, it got cancelled a couple of times, and I wasn't too sure on who to go to with queries, however from the start of the year, I would say it has improved a lot, and we now meet with our NVQ assessor regularly to update him with the work we've been doing.

7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My NVQ helps me perform better in my role as it lets me learn all about BT's policies and procedures which I may have known otherwise. It also so far has helped me learn and explore more into my job role, and what the responsibilities I and BT have in maintaining an efficiently working company.

8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Every Tuesday my team plays football after work, and every now and then we will meet up for a social drink. Also every year there is a football video gaming competition for people to take part in and raise money and awareness for a charity.

I also have seen that BT will take regular volunteers to help out with charity work, or at schools, and even give away chances to go to BT Tower, or watch a football game from the BT Studio with the reporters you see on live TV. So there are a lot of opportunities at BT

9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?

9b. Why?

I would recommend BT to a friend because it's a business where the career paths are endless. Once you have finished you apprenticeship or maybe even years down the line, there are so many different jobs at BT and so many different skills you can gain, that if you want to move around and explore a different job title, this is definitely possible.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?

For anyone else applying for BT, I would tell them to apply for anything you have a slight interest in. If you start a job at BT then it's not necessarily the one you will finish your career in, and the career paths are endless at BT, I even know an apprentice who is looking into switching departments after just 8 months!

Other than that I would advise they would sell themselves as a hard-working team player, as teamwork is at the core of everything in BT, and without it BT would not be as successful as it is today.
