  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day frequently consists of analysing data sets, picking out key trends in relation to tax law - gaps/pain points. I create visulisations of the analysis I perform, discuss this with more senior members and work towards presenting the insights to the client and working on improving on negative points.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme I am on for the following reasons: I have been given the freedom to act in my own personal way, to find what I find interesting and pursue that. That I am a respected individual, and a core member of the team. I am not looked down upon for not having a degree.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been structured in a way that keeps you integrated with work, whilst being able to study for the professional qualifications that are essential for the firm. The programme is structured well on a basis that you are not the only one - there is multiple people in exactly the same position as you.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From my employer there a various support mechanisms dependent on the situation you find yourself in. If you require support in your day job senior colleagues are always more than happy to take time to explain concepts to you. If you require outside of work support we have access to a whole heap of resources from mental health lines, a dedicated career coach, buddies and mentors.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • From the training provider we have a dedicated training manager, teachers and support line if we are struggling with the content of the qualifications, the study methods or whether you simply want to confirm an answer to a question. We also receive access to an online platform which is open early/late to allow for questions to be answered around the normal 9-5.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification allows you to form a background of what the firm is about, a few concepts and what other teams do. Personally, I have not put the theory into practice, I have learnt more from senior colleagues and getting stuck in to projects, with a keen willingness to learn. However I respect that for certain teams the qualification is essential and greatly valued.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are frequent extra-curricular activities occuring at the firm, from volunteering, to socials (which could vary from a picnic in the park, to going horse racing as a group). As long as you're a willing and social individual there will be no shortage of opportunities to involve yourself in at PwC.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Given PwC's size and global footprint I would recommend PwC as an apprenticeship provider as they're recognition allows you to accurately present yourself as a player in the competitive market that exists - and to not be looked down upon because you do not have a degree. PwC is a high class, fast environment which requires the same of its people.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • To just give it a go. Regardless of your background, what you have studied or your awareness of the company - give the application a go. PwC offers such a variation of jobs that once you get your foot in the door the world is your oyster. Do not be put off by other people in assessment centres because they have experience, you're being judged as a person not a robot - they're looking for a blank canvas with the right attitude and drive, not Einstein.
