  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am learning to become a MEP engineer which means mechanical electrical process, I am 95% of the time on site which I enjoy, we have to be on site for 7:30 every morning for our daily briefings, you will be allocated a mentor who will teach you everything you need to know on site and then you will attend college one day every two weeks

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, you will learn the mechanical and electrical side of things for the first year then you will choose to specify in one subject, personally I am going to go down the electrical route, also on site you learn a lot how to deal and communicate with people as a lot of the time you are talking with the GCO’s the site manager or subcontractors

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my program I enjoy going to site mostly everyday, everyone here is supporting and will give you a helping hand, no one treats you as less of them because you are an apprentice, overall it’s a good atmosphere on site and in the office, I enjoy both aspects

    10/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the programme is well organised, at the very start of the programme we were all sent to Derby conference centre, to get our CSCS card and the water hygiene card, we spent two weeks there learning about the company and getting to know people which was a good start

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel we receive plenty of support from JN Bentley, there is always someone you can call for advice or help for example your line manager is always there and the head of training development, you can also write to them via email or give them a quick call if you ever become stuck

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At the start of the programme we had some minor issues with the training provider, which wasn’t JN Bentleys fault, but now overall it is all working okay, like I said before they are only on the other end of the phone if you become stuck or need advice

    8/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel it gives us a theory point of view on how things work, it’s good to see how things work from a theory point of view and also on site I feel it makes you understand the logistics of how it works a lot easier rather just seeing it from one view

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a annual sports day every year where the hole company will hire out a university and we will go down and stay there in the Friday and have a sports day Saturday with a ceremony Saturday night, also there is charity balls and curry nights on often which is fun

    9/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend JN Bentley to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • JN Bentley is a good company with a lot of benefits, as a fairly big company which is part of MMB you have many benefits, for example, payed holidays, car allowances, paid mileage, and the list goes on, it gives you a really good start for your future and you won’t leave any time soon

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JN Bentley?
  • Just be yourself, don’t try act like someone you’re not as the employer can see straight through that, you don’t have to be most clever they look more if your the sort of person who suits the company and is just a genuine person, just be polite and yourself
