  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as apprentice QS is to help with the day to day costings of our construction sites, I will speak to suppliers and place orders with them for items that site requires, then ensure that the item has been delivered as per the contract, and then pay the supplier for their product. I am very lucky to work at JN Bentley as I have strong relationships with the people in my team which makes work here very enjoyable.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my work to the maximum as I enjoy the team that I work with, the programme that JN Bentley have provided me is unique and brilliant as I am not at college with other companies, instead with my own fellow JNB employees, this is useful as we come together at college and strive to be the best we can be for the company

  • The course is very organised, this is shown by the different topics that we cover and also how we are given a timeline to complete the work, it is also well structured as there is the perfect balance of the working environment and also going to an external college 1 day a week

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are different people within my company who help me, I have my line manager, HR support on Skype, my mentor, a QES Advisor, and also my fellow employees. I know that whatever the issue is I can speak to the best suited person, whether it be work-related or personal. Even though I am the apprentice I am always made to feel significant and so the level of support I receive is whatever I desire it to be

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When I go to college I receive support off my college tutor, he is really good at his role and he offers us support even if it is not during college hours, at LSP they also have their own management team and I know that I could also go to them should there be any trouble at college. I really enjoy college as it allows to speak to other employees and learn about my trade

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • When I go to college it helps me complete my role better as I now am more aware of the terminology people use at work , this knowledge allows me to make clearer points at work. I went out to site to do surveying after we had learnt about it in college and found it useful
