  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a Technical Apprentice is to move around the different departmnets at plant swindon to learn about how each departmnet runs. These departmnets are Quality, Production (Press shop, Sub assembly), Tooling, Metrolagy and Logistics. As an apprentice I complete problem solving tasks, work on day to day issues and learn the jobs of others in the departmnet.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Being an apprentice means you get to see all differnet aspects of the business. This develops your comunicatiuon skills, teamwork skills and knowledge of the job and the business. Being involved in many differnet departments and projects is very enjoyable. I have worked with some great people and made a differnence in the departmnets I have joined.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In each departmnet your role will change. Some roles have ceritan responsibilities you take over and this takes up a large part of your workload. Other job roles are more project work based and this requires self motivation and you are responsible for finding your own work to develop the projects. All placemnets are organised and have a structure to follow to make sure you get the most out of the time you are there.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have an apprentice manager who is with us throughout our 4 years of apprenticeship. She is our first point of contact and helps us with any issues we have. Also the business is great for helping us through our apprenticeship. They provide support in the areas we need it, when we need it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have always had support thoughout every qualification we have completed. In college our teachers were alays there to assist us if needed. For NVQ we had a tranining person to help us through each milestone to comeplete our qualifications. We work hard to complete our qualifications but assistance is always there if we need it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The apprenticeship qualifications we gain are very valuable for knowledge gained and the qualification title. The qualifications are compelted through using projects we have worked on whilst in the business. This means we have large projects to work on during our placements and these are used towards the qualifications. This develops our knowledge for our jobs and the business.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As apprentices we get the chance to represent BMW MINI at career fairs, schools and colleges around the county. This is great for networking and meeting other people from similar industries or other apprentices from differnet companies. We get to show other students what it is like to become a BMW apprentice, we speak to them all about our business and our differnet apprenticeships.
