  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am purchasing manager, this entails relationship management with our suppliers. I will build partnerships, negotiate contracts, problem solve. On a daily basis I will be providing training, delegating to our support team, negotiating internally with our stakeholders as well as visiting suppliers and discussing opportunities and potential road blocks to success.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I took this course to round out my knowledge of self and business management. This course has allowed me to gain a recognised qualification adding to the years of experience I have in the travel and tourism industry. It has helped me as a person develop new strategies and skills in doing my role but to enable me also to be more confident in discussing with stakeholder my views and strategies.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I like how it is not exam focussed but that more is based on coursework and proving through may day to day work that I have the skills and abilities to complete the course. This has not just challenged me but the business to give me more opportunity and develop me for further positions within the business.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is relative well organised with the online PIVOT course handler you have a starting point for each module. It does not all line up as well as I would like and at times due to the initiation there has been challenges between the business and the course provider in deciding how best to run the course.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • When requested I receive support from my manager and director. As a remote employee I maybe have a different experience than others. I would have like more of a forum through online channels to discuss the course and gain ideas. But the business believes in the course all the way to the managing director which is important.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My course provider has been good providing a mentor. I would have liked it more regularily and probably would recommend a service level agreement between the student and the mentor to discuss what the expectations are so it is clear to both sides what is expected from each person and how it will be achieved.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It really has returned me to the theory of management of people self and the business. Allowing me to go back and form my own ideas and not those that have been given to me by previous managers. By opening this world of thinking it should make me a better manager and a stronger leader in future.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am a remote worker so this is unfair question upon me. Most of our employees work either in Luton or Surbiton where I am sure there is a lot going on. But we have a smaller team in the Austrian satalite office where we do arrange activities but not on the same scale as a central office.
