  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I’m the assistant manager. I over look the other people I’m working with when on my shifts to make sure that everyone is reaching their full potential when at work. I also take care of the stock and have the skills for the cash management side of things.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I got my cash management skills working for greene king. When I got promised these skills were shown to me and I picked them up fairly quickly. Another new skill I’ve learnt is how to manage the stock by doing stock takes and also how to order in new stock.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I’m really happy in my job role at the moment. I’ve got the means to excel in this business and I keep building on those and learning new things every day which I’m very grateful for. Doing this course helped me look at different situations in a different way and grow my own views.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was really well organised. My mentor would send me the course work I needed to do with enough time to complete it and get it back to him before our next meeting. Meetings were well scheduled as they were usually when I was on shift anyway but not too long so that I could get back to work fairly quickly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Quite a lot. I know if there’s any questions I need answered or a recap of something I’ve already learnt then he’s there to help me and guide me through. Even when he’s not in the business I know he’s at the end of the phone whenever I need him.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • They are also at the end of the phone or email if I needed them. He reassured me whenever I got coursework that if I needed to ask him questions or anything that I could just drop him a text or give him a call and he could help me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification showed me through some of the coursework and questions to challenge the way I look at situations and make me think outside the box to say the way I might usually look at things. I think it helps to be versatile when working with other people which the course helped with.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Luckily the team I work with at the moment get on really well anyway whilst we are at work and outside of work. There aren’t any official activities for our team outside of work but because we all get on so well we make our own time to see each other.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I’ve found in my own experience that there are a lot of opportunities when working for greene king to better your knowledge of the hospitality industry and excel yourself in your job role if that’s what you want to do as a career. It’s helped me a lot and I’m very grateful for that.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • I’d just say go for it. I’ve gone from normal bar staff to chef and now I’m the assistant manager who could possibly be a general manager one day. I wouldn’t have been able to do that if it wasn’t for the opportunities that greene king gave me
