  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves supporting my managers in the day to day running of a busy pub. I am also the events manager. I manage 15 staff on a daily basis including sorting shift planners setting up the bar and kitchen giving 100 % customer focus at all times . We also have a mystery guest criteria which we endeavour to achieve 100% at all times

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I am developing new management skills and delving deeper into skills I already had. I have learnt to cope in stressful and busy times in the pub and delegating jobs in order to remain productive at all times. I have become better at communication with such a large team of people and have realised to succeed you have to work with staff on all levels

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my work and feel very satisfied when we achieve targets and kpi set by my company . The programme has give me insight to leadership skills and expanded my knowledge in this business . I already had the skills but these have been at the back of my mind until this course I feel it has given me the opportunity to shine

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised if not a little confusing at times as I’m not totally comfortable with computers. My tutor has been really helpful with this side of things and is very patient showing me what to do. The sections are easy to follow and all practical sessions are what I do on a daily basis so easily achieved

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my immediate managers but I have to complete most of the work in my own time which is not always possible there was some argument between Lifetime and my company as to how many hours I’m supposed to do at work but to be honest I find it easier at home

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received maximum support from my tutor , he is very knowledgable and helps me a great deal he is patient and puts a lot of time and effort in to our sessions I really appreciate all the dedication from him personally he is professional but friendly with a good sense of humour

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me to understand the business side and look at situations from a management point of view I try to view the business as my own and think of things to improve on from the training it also has helped me understand differently staff and I have become more knowledge

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not really we raise money for a local charity so there is always events to attend with that side of things but we work early and lates so not much time to socialise we do arrange xmas party’s etc and have party’s when staff have done well etc so like an incentive

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • If you enjoy a fast paced environment where you have to think and act quickly then yes this is the company for you they seem to be very into technology and communication is done by social media which if you’re not used to it can be quite daunting but easy to pick up


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Be prepared to be busy at all times you need to use your own initiative and be a team player do not expect higher than average pay but you do get regular rewards and recognition for hard work etc most people I have met in the business are very friendly
