  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage a 250 seater restaurant/pub with a wacky warehouse. Ensuring that food quality and service is delivered to high standard to ensure all our guests leave happy and wanting to return. I have team of 40 staff, who I manage and coach to ensure we meet our goals and company targets.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt about various management skills and I have been able to assess my own styles and understand how to change them depending on the individuals. I have been able to utilise the budget and financial to have a more in-depth knowledge of my own site and how I can make changes to improve the business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, it was rewarding and informative, providing a qualification to match my work experience, this is really important to me, as is helps to map out my future but also broadens my knowledge and experience to open up new opportunities within hospitality but also from different business perspectives

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was well organised, I was given time to study, at home and away from work. My tutor was very organised and accommodating to my personal and business needs. There was a strutted from the outset, planning the sessions and my study sessions, making my own planning easy to fit around the plan.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer provided time in and out of work to study, my area manager was available if I had any questions and I felt supported at all times. Reviewing my target learnings and breaking down some of the financial business strategy’s and how they fitted into my own performance and future

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider was available whenever I needed assistance, from using new technology to understanding the questions. She planned my course work along side the classroom sessions and always made herself available to assistant me if I had any queries, I also found all other contacts within lifetime training approachable and helpful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel I use the qualification everyday within my work place and I also feel that I have a greater understanding of the business as whole and how I can influence the future. It’s important to understand all the factors to be able to deliver a happy work balance

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not at this point, within my team, there are often social gatherings and many of my team get together and enjoy our quiz night. Externally within my area we will often get together monthly and have a social get together after our meetings, to share ideas and best practise or just offer support amongst ourselves

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They have invested in me, which has helped to provide experience and knowledge but also support my peers within their development and understand what is available for my team in terms of progression. I am happy to see that greeneking are keen to develop at all levels and are investing in their people


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Enjoy people and customer service and this is the place for you, no two days are ever the same and you need to be hands on and good at building a team, even making the business like your own. If your not afraid of hard work, this can pay off
