  • Over see the running of a pub with specific focus on cost saving, service requirements, service and correct stocking of products. Serving drinks to specs and food in a timely manner. Ensuring staff are happy, devising rotas and deploying man power to business needs and budget. Agreeing and implementing business requirements

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to make concise and accurate forecasts of takings and sales per week. I have used this information to make rotas that take into account local events and deployed staff with consideration. I have ordered stock to account for this and created reliable and accurate stock counts to ensure management of resources.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is a good way of learning how to be an effective leader and manage the needs of the company, staff and customers. It allows me to take into account staff and guests needs and wants and apply them to my way of working. I can show why some aspects of the business is needed like stock control.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I meet with my tutor every 5 weeks and go through a different aspect of the course each time. I am given work to do to send to him on a regular basic that keeps me up to date with the work load. I have sever aspects that are needed to be completed on the job during my working day and this can be sent to the tutor at any time

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am allowed time to complete my course and can record aspect of my job to back up the work done. My line manager helps with any questions I am not able to answer confidently and helps me to understand a wider range of the company and business as a general aspect

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I can contact my trainer at any time and usually recieve a response within an hour. I have been told to contact them with any questions I may have and can directly forward them evidence of work that they will then mark off my course as complete without any intervention by me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification helps me understand the needs of the business, company, staff and customer providing me to be able to create a good workplace to work and a great place for the customer to visit. It allows me to think of every aspect and how it can be improved from a hospitality stand point

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I can create a sports or hobby team should I wish. There are many charity events that are run nationally by my company that everyone is encouraged to take part in. I am going on a charity hike for Macmillan next month through the company and am encouraged to raise money for it.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a good place to work that focuses on constant development in this sector of work. The hours are long and shifts can be hard so as long as the person is equipped to handle that, it is OK. It has benefits such as discounts at places and lots of training programs


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Have experience and don't expect to be off a lot of the time. Do some research into the company and the shifts that may be expected of you. You are expected to maintain 100% compliance of aspects and work 6 days a week if needed in your site. There is scope to move roles if wanted
