  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I was a pub manager, so I was responsible for business compliancy to the law and also greene King policies. I was responsible for hiring and firing team, creating incentives and building bonds between my team. Planning events to drive business within my pub and working out what works and what doesn't.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt alot about employee laws that I did not know, regarding grievance and Disciplinary procedures. Also alot about budget setting and thinking of competitors when developing or even creating a new business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed what I experienced on the program, alot of the out of house courses were delivered very well and my second retail trainer was excellent. From being behind to having completed the course in just a couple of months I thought was pretty incredible. Thank you

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Initially I thought the programme was a bit of a strange set up but that was because my regional trainer was apparently not very good at his job, once I got my second trainer I ploughed through the work and found it surprisingly easy to get all the work done swiftly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would say I didn't really receive any support from my employer, but that may have been due to the fact that I didn't really need it. Any questions I either found out through my own research or through talking to my regional trainer as he was previous a pub manager.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As stated previously my second tutor was phenomenal he had all the knowledge required to complete the course and the enthusiasm him in his work drove me to complete my work promptly and at a good standard. There were useful tools in the course to setting yourself targets which helped setting targets to complete the course between myself and the trainer.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The great thing about the course was how generic it is and we'll it could be used to any form of employment and some of it to everyday tasks. It helped me feel confident in certain areas that make people feel uncomfortable e.g. Displinung and even unemploying staff.

    9/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No

    9/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would even though I've recently left GK but I feel it was my relationship with my BDM that drove my passion away. With all pub companies you are always going to be fighting budgets to try and achieve max profit conversion, but I feel that mine were unfair and would require more hours of my life that is healthy. But maybe some managers have it better.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Look into the business very carefully that you wish to work in and then decide if you believe that you can make it work without putting too much stress on your life in and out of work. Otherwise you will burn out and be in the position that I am now.
