  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I distribute the weather forecast to the other site and amongst the ground engineers at Tameside. I also take calls and log live jobs on Maximo for repairs in the hospital, and also log security incidents and Out of Hours rectifications jobs. The entire service desk is tasked with keeping the system up to date by signing off completed jobs, logging new jobs and assigning them, and also logging planned maintenance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt the correct etiquette to handle customers over the phone in a calm, polite and helpful manner. I have also become accustomed to typing at the same rate that someone is speaking on the phone, however I have no perfected this. I have also been trained in using Maximo.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my program to a certain extent. I really like working on a service desk as you always have someone to fall back on if you don't quite know what your doing, and they are always helpful, nice and supportive, as well as also pointing out mistakes I've made and showing me how to fix them. Everyone in the office and engineers are really polite and nice. However, when the workload piles up it gets quite stressful on the helpdesk, this is probably the only part that I don't like about it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It has always been very organised when it comes to my apprenticeship. I spend most of my week working on the helpdesk and 8 hrs/week doing Off the job training. This gives me the regularity and clockwork like timings of my normal job, and also the chance to try something different once a week.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive all the support I need from my employer, both in work and out. During working hours, if I have any problems with anything I can count on either [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], my colleague on the helpdesk, or my line manager [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]. However if these two are fore some reason unavailable, then anyone who has time to spare is perfectly happy to give me a hand.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • the support from the training provider is not as strong as I would like to be honest. This may be as they are in the process of scaling down their company however it has not been the best support all round and I only meet with my tutor once a month at most.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my role has helped me with my qualification rather than the other way round. I believe that this is because I come across a lot of things that I don't understand during my role and have frequently sought an explanation. This, I believe, has been my main source for education throughout this role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • ENGIE run and sponsor many extra-curricular activities and also endorse and promote those in the company that are hosting/participating in events, especially when its for charity. I'm not sure if they have any sports teams themselves as it is a multi-national company with many denominations, however they are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle, with schemes such as 'cycle to work' and free, healthy food being ordered from ASDA.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Equans to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Ever since the day I've started working here, they've taken my best interests to heart. Its an excellent salary for my age, and I also get to do an important and meaningful role, rather than being left with the stuff no one wants to do. There are many opportunities within company, including working abroad, which has always been a dream of mine.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Equans?
  • Read up on the company before your interview, as company background was key during my interview. Dress smart, be polite and intuitive and aim to answer every single question with as much detail, however specific or seemingly useless. I also believe that it is very important to smile and show that you are a positive person who will bring a positive attitude to the workplace.
