  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am responsible for managing and controlling the lifecycle budget on the University of Sheffield site. This will include creating specifications for the large projects and co-ordinating works on a site level during the summer period when the buildings are not occupied. I spend a lot of time shadowing the account manager and the project manager that comes on site during the summer months.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been able to improve my managing upwards skills whilst also not negatively impacting my relationship with others on site. I have learned a lot about project management, this includes project fundamentals and principles, business case and investment appraisal and project management planning. I am now able to apply this to the summer project on-site which means it is much easier to learn and apply.

  • I thoroughly enjoy the programme, I feel as though the training workshops are really well structured and applicable to the projects in the workplace. I think that the exposure I get on-site enables me to create a quality portfolio. My skills coach is really helpful in ensuring I am able to develop myself so that I can fulfill my potential.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme workshops are really well organised and the tutors are very knowledgeable in the subject. This helps me fully understand the subject and apply it to the work I do on-site this means that all the learning that I do is valuable. I feel as though due to work being seasonal I get to see all the projects in the project lifecycle.

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel as though ENGIE is a really responsible employer that invests heavily in learning and development and in-house talent. They show frequently that they very much value their employees by offering discount on home energy, the myengie portal and other schemes that can benefit you. They also have a very good ethics, inclusion and diversity scheme.
