  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am in charge of maintaining the security of the network for North Tyneside Council which Engie provide ICT services for. • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a lot of personal skills. For example my apprenticeship involves doing work with other apprentices, this could be promoting the scheme/Engie. I have also built communication, teamwork, organisational skills, and time keeping skills. I have managed to develop those skills almost everyday by working on projects and dealing with calls which have come in.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my apprenticeship, this is down to the fact that i have the opportunity to 'earn while i learn'. This is great as i am developing my knowledge every day while carrying out a variety of different tasks. I am also learning about the business world and how each sectors/services function.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation of my apprenticeship started off poorly, as Engie and my self weren't aware at the fact that my training would be taking place in London. Engie and QA did help with arranging my travel and accommodation for each training course in London which did help with the process.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. I have been given membership to different online training sites which help develop my knowledge. I can access this at home or using the 2 hours a week allocated time for training. I also receive 20% off the job time to keep up to date with my apprenticeship work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have regular meetings with a skills coach which was assigned to me at the beginning of the apprenticeship, these meetings can occur every 4 weeks. I also have phone calls with the contract manager from QA who looks after Engies contract with QA. I can voice any concerns i have and she forwards my concerns on to the right people.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe the training i have received has helped me massively! The training i received was verbal and practical. This helps me put what i have learned into action in a training environment, before heading back to work and using this in a live environment. I also received books which i can keep from each course with everything the trainer has taught over that course.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I believe there are some extra-curricular activities to get involved in. However, there is nothing that has really grabbed my interest as of yet. I have taken part in a football 6 a side tournement, as well as taking place in the step up challenge which was on last year.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Equans to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitley recommend Engie to anyone. The company has a lot of different job opportunities from a joiner to a software developer. My experience with the company has been exceptional, they have paid for my qualification, costs for travel and accommodation to London for my training courses, and are also offering to pay for my degree.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Equans?
  • There isn't a lot of advice which I can give except being yourself. This is probably the most important as Engie value unique individuals and hard workers. Even if you aren't sure on the exact career for you, Engie is a great company to get into as they will help you find what you're perfect at.
