  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I was helping alongside trainees in the office, in a different seat (department) each day, and learning all about the area of law which they practise, and helping with their tasks. This often involved a worksheet to help you gain an understanding before moving on to doing some real life work on the departments current projects.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed my programme and I liked meeting and working with a variety of new people. I also found it interesting to undertake many different tasks in many different areas and learnt a lot about law in general. The team are all really nice and approachable and I was made to feel at home by everybody there. It was better than i was expecting as previous work experiences have involved making a cup of tea!

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well structured and we were never left without something to be getting on with. The safety presentations were good and informative and we were well prepared at the start of the week. We were told very often if we have any questions please do ask and this helped as all the team were very approachable which made everybody on the programme a lot more relaxed. Pinsent Masons work experience is unique in the sense that you get involved with real life work/

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The trainees were all extremely helpful and throughout our time with them would call us in regularly to check how we were getting on, ask if we had any questions and just generally chat to us to make us feel welcome. They were also informative about things such as the gap year programme and we were able to ask them about university and further study.

  • 9b. Why?
  • It was a very good and informative week and has confirmed my ideas of wanting to pursue a career in law. The work experience is unlike any other I have come across and has given me valuable skills and knowledge which I will take with me to university and beyond. For anybody thinking of studying law at university and hopes to go on to pursue a career in commercial law, it is the perfect oppurtunity to find a place to start and to start building connections within the world of commercial law.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • The application process requires you to fill out a long form which asks many questions about you and your interests in law. Doing some research on the company beforehand may help and just being yourself; they want to see potential and as long as you appear keen to be accepted onto the programme that is a good place to start!
