On a day to day basis I testing iOS applications. Some of this is manual, but I also write automated test scripts using Swift to test the UI in simulations. I spend 8 hours a day at work. I attend team stand up daily as well as sprint planning sessions twice a month.
I have learnt more about the Swift programming language. Also I have learnt some react.js as part of observing some of my colleagues that work on web development. I have learnt to use the JIRA system for managing software development as well. Personally I am also learning how to take on more responsibility and behave more professionally.
I really enjoy the progamme because at a young age (18) I am able to work on an application that has millions of users here in the UK. My colleagues are very friendly and are always willing to help. It has met and surpassed some of my expectations. Studying for a degree for free and getting a salary are MASSIVE bonuses.
The programme is very well organised. I had a month of induction training and then I began working. I have more senior colleagues that I have a mentor/mentee relationship with, so if I have any questions about my career progression etc. I can also reach out to someone. I also keep in contact with fellow apprentices. University organisation is decent although in some cases there have some problems. Overall organisation of the programme is very high
There is a lot of support available. My manager is very supportive and members of the HR team contacted me on many occasions in order to help me progress with work and roles within the organisation. There are also support for issues such as Mental Health etc. In my team my colleagues have been very helpful
Financially all tuition fees for my degree are paid for by my employer (Yay!). They also give me a salary (Double Yay!), which allows me to pay for transport, food and other necessities and having some left over to put towards savings and treat myself. In terms of term, one day a week I study at university during term times.
At the moment there is not too much relevance between my work and my study. I learn Java at Uni and use Swift at work. However I know that the programming skills that I have picked up at Uni will definitely help me in the future. It has also increased my overall confidence when it comes to creating applications.
There are a lot of things to do at Accenture. From football to wine tasting, there is a wide range of groups and societies that are available to join. Employees are encouraged to take some days off in order to volunteer with certain charities. So there is a lot to do when not in the office
Yes
Accenture is a very big company that offer a range of exciting job opportunities. There is a lot support for all employees and apprentices at Accenture, and a range of social events to attend if you are interested. For me the technical opportunities to develop as a professional are exceptional if you work hard.
Applying for a degree apprenticeship here at Accenture is a very long process, as there is a lot competition (emphasis on a lot). The initial application consists of answering questions about why you would like to work at Accenture. There are also online tests and then face-to-face interviews as well as group exercises in assessment centres. Make you understand what it is Accenture do, and how you can fit into that vision (your skills, visions, qualitites etc).
