  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Job Title: Data Analyst Daily Tasks: I do not have a fixed day to day role as such, which I thoroughly enjoy, yet in my role I am able to cover copious amounts of data activities from querying databases, to constructing automated testing scripts. Work part time with data science team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Prior to becoming an apprentice at Santander, I had a lack of technological background, yet through my academic studies on the degree side of the apprenticeship, coupled with on the job learning, I have been able to pick up various coding languages as well as understand the businesses internal infrastructure and networking capabilities. Furthermore within Santander, I have been encouraged to participate in regularly occurring training sessions to improve my understanding and learning around my current role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I feel as though my programme is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to multiple areas of a highly regarded company. The work that I am tasked to do being beneficial not only for the business but also my own personal development within the programme. colleagues are very supportive and helpful

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme structure involves an apprentice initially rotating around the business, which enables you to gain an understanding of the end to end processes of the bank and from different perspectives. Furthermore, this also enables you to gain a plethora of skills that can be transferred from each placement. Regular training and support from team members is always encouraged to ensure you maximise your understating and to ensure the completion of tasks to a professional standard.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Depending on there schedule you may have 30min a day to whole day of support. This can be through organising training sessions or advising how to approach tasks based on their own experiences. Furthermore the HR team provide substantial level of support and are incredibility useful to help answer any general queries or help with any problems currently being experienced in the role.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Loads BPP is extremely supportive with the UNI side of the program. To go along with the predefined lecture times, all tutors are able to answer questions in an ad-hoc basis, which provides another layer of support when struggling with a subject. Furthermore the training provider often relates topics to a business perspective so that each module can be manipulated to fit a business function, which creates an underlying foundation for majority of the business areas.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • BPP helps home in with some of the skills taught at work. They provide extra knowledge to be learnt much will help down the line in the course. They provide Lynda online course provider if you would like to learn additional skills. overall I would say they are wonderful to work with.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are extra curricular activities such as the Linux community you could get involved with he Gym pass and more. You could also meet up with your colleagues after work to network work more. Also, have training days where you and other departments can meet up and share knowledge

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Wonderful people at work and also extremely supportive colleagues. Pay very well and are always there to help you if your stuck with anything. They provide you with loads of skills which you can use after you leave the placement to help you secure another job also help you secure role within the bank


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Santander?
  • Be ready to embark on wonderful experience of learning new skills additionally, be ready to devote time to university as this can be stressful at times. The program will be wonderful eye opening experience to what the work life truly is. You won't regret it I assure you of that.
