  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently I am a Relationship Manager. I work with a specific product and manage my own portfolio of customers that is overlooked by the Relationship Director. I support on a short version of credit papers, and process deals. I also sped a lot of time prospecting to bring new clients in.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a lot about credit analysis which was something I was hoping to get more in depth with, I will probably di this more during my next rotation as we have 4 rotations and risk (credit risk hopefully) is mandatory. I have also learned a lot from speaking to clients on how their businesses work and run.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy having my own responsibility and being able to learn more from studying on the side that supports what I am doing. I am most pleased about being able to network and build my contacts through my current role and doing the rotations as this will help me massively I the future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Being the first cohort to do this particular scheme, it has been tough to get into it as the information has always been very last minute. Although we do get a lot of information about the scheme, I don't always get answers to my questions in a timely manner such as finding out how the next placements are going to work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get a lot of support, I have been really lucky to be put in a great team where I know exactly who to go to when I need help. I have managed to get involved with loads of projects that have helped me build my knowledge and ask more questions that I needed to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We do get regular contact from the monthly meetings and from the webinars but I haven't always found the quality to be up to scratch. I feel like we get the wrong information quite often such as being told our exams were multiple choice until about a month before we found out it was all essay based after the majority failed the draft essay as we weren't used to the style of writing and didn't have any guidance on it until after.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Some of the history is good to know just for our own knowledge in the industry. The risk in banking module so far has been great since this is relevant to the deals I process everyday so I can apply that knowledge to the credit papers I am writing and to understand the underlying reason behind them.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I do some charity work with the company which was been great to help out in the community, we recently did a football tournament and raised money for our chosen charity partners. I have also done community days to schools where I was helping out with CV writing and different parts of interview tips.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Santander to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have been with Santander for a long time even before I started this scheme and they have always looked after me, I have built a great network and get a lot of support from my colleagues. It is growing so everything I do makes a difference to the overall goals of the company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Santander?
  • Learn as much as you can, follow the behaviours as they are very relevant. Build a network as everyone in the business has a great insight as they have so much experience that they are happy to share. Be passionate about what you are doing as that's our key point with our customers.
