  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I currently work as an Apprentice Devops Engineer in a team that develops attended and untended robotics automation processes. The role involves anything from development, functional design, client interaction etc. The role is really challenging, which is good because it pushes you to be at your best at all times.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • 100%! Before starting my journey as a Software Engineer Apprentice in Advanced Technology Center (Accenture, Newcastle) I neither had experience in coding nor technical knowledge in general. Everything I know today with regards to programming and technical knowledge is because of my current role. I developed new skill and improved current old ones.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is really enjoyable and challenging, however sometimes gets a bit too busy. This is due to the fact that you need to balance full time work and full time university degree at the same time. Despite that, efforts are always recognized which means that senior members of staff always have visibility of the good work you do!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the Software Engineer Apprenticeship Programme is well organised. Monday to Thursday we have to go to work. Every Friday, we go to university. As mentioned above, it sometimes gets too busy, however it keeps you on track to be the best. Transport and tuition fees are taken care of too.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • All the support you need! It's awesome. Everyone in here is extremely friendly and will try their best to help to those who struggle. We also have a Mental Health Allies community, which focus on bringing awareness to other employees of the support and help available to colleagues and their family members.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Support from lecturers are not as good as it could be. Some lecturers give their 100% whereas others seem to not care too much... mostly, the feedback for the assessments is poor and does not reflect the amount of work that we need to do. 2500 words essay and 20 words feedback...

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As mentioned above, I did not have any technical knowledge prior to joining Accenture. In my first year of university I learned a lot of fundamentals which massively improved my performance at work. There lectures that will not be applicable too much in your daily role but the majority of syllabus is!

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, we have charity events (everyone entitled to 3 charity days). Charity day means that you can choose any charity you want and help them out whilst Accenture will still pay for it! Lot's of sport events, social and community events, team night-outs.... Plenty to choose from! We recently got pool tables and PS4 & Xbox's in communal areas to relax on lunch breaks.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it's a great company to work for! You meet lots of amazing people, you get paid good salary, gain three years of working experience with the leading, global IT consultancy company, work on amazing innovative projects and get a university degree without being in debt to Student Loans company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • Be yourself! Show willingness to learn and ability to quickly adapt to changes = that's all you need. Once again, I managed to get job at Accenture without having any prior knowledge of coding. However, what I did have was the ability to learn. Accenture noticed that I am a quick learner and I would adapt to the new working environment in no time!
