  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work closely with line managers, advising on Employee relations and employment laws, ensuring that the advice given is best practice and consistent. I look at all the employees and see where the progression is for them and help the managers steer them into the correct progression. I report on KPI's each month, surrounding leavers, new starters and reasons for leaving.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have gained a new network of people who are all aiming for the same thing in their role. I have learned new skills that were otherwise not known to me, until completing the programme. It has given me great insight into how other businesses operate and we have been able to trade information on policies and procedures.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At the beginning it was difficult as there were 2 different groups together and some of the material we were given was not relevant to our programme, but after 1 unit this was sorted as we raised it to the leader. We also had the issue of no assessor coming in to watch our work being done. The competency units were completed by myself with no input from an assessor, but this has now been completed and didn't cause too much of an issue.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Time to attend the sessions each Tuesday for 1 year, time in work to complete research and complete projects. I was able to sit in on complex cases that broadened my experience. I was able to attend the CIPD conference that allowed me to network with other companies and get an insight into all the different types of companies that can help a business in the HR field.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] in Macclesfield was amazing, no matter what we asked, she knew the answer. She was very supportive when I had a blip in my Mental Health and helped my through my course from Day one. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was also brilliant, before she had to move on - had so much support from both of them.

  • 9a. Would you recommend AO to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have been here for 7 years and it has developed me as a person but also given me great skills to use in the business, but should I ever leave, they can be passed onto other employers. They have helped me massively with my Mental Health and have provided help in work as well as out of work. My team understand my condition and we all work well together.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AO?
  • Be yourself. Understand the business that you are coming into, our values and our mission. Ensure you know what role you have applied for as you will be asked specific questions from the role profile. Be ready to answer silly questions as we like to have fun. Most of all, enjoy applying to one of the best companies in Crewe to work for.
