  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as an MEP apprentice is to learn the various building service systems that we install on our projects. My day to day activities involves working with the trades and engineers to further my knowledge on building services. This will give me a better understanding of my role when I am qualified.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have built on many skills such as confidence, communication skills as well as my practical skills on site. As an apprentice it may seem hard to get involved as you don't know much compared to the other employees however being confident enough to ask questions is a great skill to have.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot as you are doing something new everyday and get to work with a variety of different people. At the minute I am going on lots of factory visits with other apprentices to see how plant and equipment is manufactured and I find it interesting how all that works.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe my programme is very well organized, you always have help from senior people if you need it and I have regular reviews with my line manager to make sure I am on the right track. I have a busy yet fair training programme I must complete but that allows me to plan out what I need to do on a weekly basis.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is always asking me if I am doing okay and makes time for me if I have any questions. I have been assigned a mace buddy as I am new to the business and she is helpful as she has been an apprentice like myself so knows what I am experiencing.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The lectures at uni could be more helpful however there are lots of people in one class so it is hard for them to get round to everyone all the time. Mace help in the way of allowing you time to revise if you have an exam approaching in the coming weeks.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At the minute I would say it hasn't helped that much as I have not long started. I do believe however as the year goes on things will go into much more depth and I will then be able to use that knowledge for my role and on future projects.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes I think so, I haven't had much time to look into what there is to offer however a simple one would be work drinks or communication sessions that you can go to in order to meet people you might not get to see in the business on a daily basis

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mace to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I personally think Mace is a great company to work for. There are so many opportunity's available and they consistently show you that they genuinely care about your growth as an individual and that you are not just another employee. This motivates me to do my best as I know they believe I can.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
  • If I was offering advice to a friend applying for a position at mace group I would tell them to be confident, professional and ask lots of questions. If they were applying to do the apprenticeship course then I would say to them that the course is one of the most detailed courses to ensure you gain as much knowledge as possible.
