  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to work in the different streams which BDO ipswich has, and so far I have been performing tasks which a junior auditor usually undertake. I have been out on two auditing jobs, and participate in setting up account tests and also helping to perform the tests and monitoring how these are reviewed. I have also played a part in preparing a clients accounts in the accounts prep department.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt an awful lot about using accounting systems, and also can translate information from company reports onto a working document on the computer. I have alsp built up confidence and personal empowerment and repsonsibility since being on the program, and feel I can approach anybody with and questions and queries I have, and always manage to find out the answers I have needed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my program and found it very interesting and also it has provided a great insight into the business and career I am hoping to progress into. My colleagues at the Ipswich office over my two week program have been more than helpful, always willing to help and guide me in my work, and also inviting me to an event out of work to join in a 5 a side football match, which really helped me feel welcomed and accepted into the group here.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BDO?
  • I feel quite valued by BDO, as they have provided me with lots of different opportunites over my two weeks, also entrusting me to undertake real client work which has made me feel highly valued. I am priveledged to have been given such a unique and valuable opportunity to learn and develop my skills for the world of work.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program is well organised, and even when I wasn't contactable the office had a back-up plan for work to get me to undertake in the office. I have known the work I am doing for the whole two weeks, and so I have been prepared and ready to take on the challenges presented each day and so the programs structure is great overall.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have been working in different areas of the office as mentioned before, but all the people I have worked with have been informative and very helpful in that they have supported me and been able to answer my questions and provide guidance when required.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has given me lots of support in the fact they have contacted me regularly and told me the work I will be doing and also by selecting to put me working with the right people who have been willing to help me in any situation I have needed them.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is more than enough to cover travel costs, however I have had to pay for a hotel for the two weeks, but the wealth of experience and knowledge aquired has made up for any financial costs incurred.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, a few of my colleagues go to the local gym which I have also been attending, and I was invited to a five-a-side football match after work which made me feel like part of the team and a valued member here outside of work time.

  • 9. Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The experiences I have had over the two weeks have been excellent, and the opportunities that may come from doing this are excellent. The people are very friendly and helpful, and everyone is willing to talk to you and help you out if require, also the work you undetake is very interesting and perfect for anyone looking to work in accounting and auditing in their future.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
  • Be yourself in the interview, and also be prepared to answer competancy based questions in you Senior Manager interview. Be confident and willing, and also be prepared to work long hours if assigned to a client job, but most of all ensure you go into the two weeks with an open mind and you will find that you gain lots from the experience.
