  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Case administrator running day to day tasks on jobs. This includes tasks such as contacting directors, producing reports and producing accounting records. I have also recently been given my own case load which has placed greater responsibility on myself. I can now oversee more junior members of staff and delegate work to them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • yes I have developed my analytical skills and can now cast my eye over financial information and extract important data from it. I am now much more comfortable in talking to people over the phone and in person and can deal with quite difficult and hostile situations with relative ease.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my day to day job and I really enjoy the company of my colleagues. I do not think that the apprenticeship itself has offered me any benefits and has taken away time that I could have spent developing my own career and skills. I think that the AAT has been beneficial in itself.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think that the structure of the apprenticeship hasn't been communicated very clearly and the difference between the AAT exams and the apprenticeship hasn't been made very clear. I also had to attend a couple of lessons for a course that was not needed and so this was a clear miscommunication.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from work and can always ask the more senior members of staff for help and advice. there are dedicated training managers who can be called upon for further support and I think that this is very beneficial. I am very happy with the level of support I receive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive lots of support from bpp both when I am doing a course and also in the periods in between my studies. I am always given contact details of my tutors and each tutor is available for contact even when I'm not studying under them. This is very reassuring.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that large parts of the AAT course are not relevant to the line of work which I am in. I think that professional qualifications are more geared towards tax and audit as opposed to restructuring. I do however think that I have a better understanding of basic accounting practices and this very helpful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of other activities and events that I can get involved in. these include things such as yoga classes and lunch time walks. There are also lots of networking events that I can attend and this is encouraged by the management. There is a large emphasis on going out and speaking to other people.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • My colleagues are very friendly and we get on very well as a team. We also spent time outside of work together which isn't a regular occurrence at other firms. The benefits package is inline with other top firms and I feel as though my opinions and thoughts are valued.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
  • I would apply to work for RSM as I think that the firm is very inclusive and very welcoming. There is plenty of support and on offer and there are lots of events which you can get involved in. I would say to be prepared to work hard in order to get the most out of things.
