  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the Accounts and business advisory department, on a daily basis I assist in the accounts preparation process for clients. This involves analysing information given by the clients such as invoices and bank statements, to prepare a set of accounts which will be sent to companies house/ the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt a lot of business related skills through experience in the office, but mostly my experience with RSM has helped me to develop more as an individual. As part of my induction with the company I was sent on various courses in London. This increased my independence, built up my confidence as I was having to et to know new people, and gave me a lot more responsibility.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really been enjoying my programme and would recommend it to anyone looking in to an apprenticeship. As a school leaver I initially found the jump from six form to working a shock, however after settling in I feel it was the best option for me. I have no regrets about choosing an apprenticeship over university!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The internal training team at RSM are very well organised and have all the courses and information you might need prepared, which helps a lot when reducing stress with exams. There is also plenty of help when it comes to booking exams and managing time, to make sure the work to revision load is balanced.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from my employer and feel I can approach them at any time is I was having problems. Each student is assigned an exam training manager who is available to go to with any issues, and I am encouraged to say if I need my workload reduced so I can balance exam work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I currently study through BPP online classrooms, so the courses are taught via livestream this makes it easy to ask on the spot questions, however if you are struggling to keep up it can be easy to lose track of. As my qualification progresses I will be learning in the classroom which I think would be better. However BPP offers a lot of resources and videos to catch up and help with any missed information.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has given me a lot more knowledge of my role, and I understand the processes I follow when preparing the accounts better. This has helped me to improve the quality of the work I produce and the efficiency. Working whilst studying has also helped to show real life examples of topics I am learning about.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a lot of professional networking events that we are encouraged to go to, which gives us the opportunity to meet other young professionals and for the students at RSM to bond outside of work. There is also regular football games and band meets which gives you a chance to bond with other departments.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It has a well developed student programme and will help in whatever way they can to make sure studying goes smoothly. It is a friendly place to work and everyone is very approachable when you need help, something which is great when you are an apprenticeship. They also have a wide range of internal courses to help with personal improvement.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
  • To make sure you look in depth in to the roles available as each role is very different and will be suited to different individuals. Make sure to reference RSM's key values which can be found on the website, during the application process and prove how you fit in to these values as these are regarded highly within the firm.
