  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work at creating test scripts for functional, technical, styling and accessibility tests. I work with a team to execute these functional, technical, styling and accessibility test scripts, and raise bugs and defects when scripts fail. I complete E2E hunter testing each week to ensure that the build is as defined. I upskill testers on new tools we use and how to complete daily tester activities. I create functional documentation such as workbooks. I support developers when they fix bugs I carry out pipecleaning after the 4 daily deployments that happen across the project environments. I create standards guides for easy handovers and to support new team members.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have massively improved my communication skills - both written and verbal I have upskilled on accessibility tools i.e WAVE, AXE and NVDA. I have upskilled on a new kanban software, which can be used for listing tasks under team members, uploading and executing test scripts, and holding valuable project data. I have improved my teaching skills. I have improved my management skills. I have improved my time keeping skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is hard work with high stress, but i feel motivated and positive about it. I like that there is a fairly broad choice of modules across the 3 degree levels, as well as mandatory modules that are chosen based on our alignment (i.e. software engineer, data analyst etc).

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is reasonably well structured in the sense that we have a clear understanding of how the program works. However, the communication between the training provider and organisation/apprentices is not great. Module dates are not provided far enough in advance, so apprentices find it hard to get out of project commitments in order to attend.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Apprentices each have a careers counselor who supports them with their day to day work, promotions, projects and queries about the apprenticeship program from an internal position. Each apprentice also has an ambassador assigned to them who acts as a middle man between Accenture and QA (the training provider). Their role is to support the apprentice when required for any issues around the modules/ training dates etc.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have 4 physical workshops for each module (typically running for 8 weeks) We have access to an online portal, which allows for communication between students and tutors when required. Tutors also set up WebEXs when requested/when they feel like additional support is required. There is course content on the online portal for us to access

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has given me knowledge across a broad range of areas within the technology industry that I don't currently have access to, but may need basic knowledge on in my future career. Some modules are very much relevant to my role, and so, have either provided a deeper understanding on the topics or reinforced my prior knowledge.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are various communities and sub-communities that hold networking events, social activities and have sport teams. These are a great way to develop soft skills as well as expand your professional network. However, I think that social activities and sport teams aren't sufficiently promoted and accessible to those whom may be interested in them.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a good company to work for. They offer a competitive salary for apprentices, they have good values and offer great opportunities for employees to grow professionally and personally. The people that work here are also friendly and helpful, often going out of their way to provide support when required.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • I think you should go out of your way to properly understand what Accenture is about. Read about previous solutions Accenture has provided, and think about the ways in which you think technology may evolve in the future i.e future solutions that may be provided. Also, familiarise yourself with the Accenture culture and values, as these are a core part of the company.
