  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently I am in my records management placement. This provides an experience of the day to day activities of a records manager. One of the tasks is to index some legacy documents and decide whether we need to keep them or not. The job also involves managing digitised records and ensuring they are correct.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout my apprenticeship I have learnt many new and different skills due to the nature of my job. I started off learning hand skills and electrical skills before starting my work placements. These placements are 8 to 10 weeks long and they are all different meaning I get a variety of experience and skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy this programme because of its diversity in the placements that I do. It means that I get a taste of the different jobs I could end up in. The courses have all been interesting so far and I feel like I have learnt a lot. Looking forward to my permanent placement.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has had its ups and downs in terms of organisation, this was mainly due to it being a new scheme, but at times it was not very enjoyable due to it not being clear what I was meant to be doing. Organisation has since improved due to being in my work placements.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have been receiving all of the support I have needed throughout my apprenticeship so far, whether it has been personal or work related. I am confident in speaking to my line manager if I have any issues and know that I will be listened to and supported if I need it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At college I receive a good amount of training and teaching for my exams and assignments in order to work towards my degree. The lessons are in depth and cover all of the subject that is necessary. If I need extra support there is a session on a Monday afternoon I can go to.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At the moment I don't feel that my qualification is that relevant to the current job role I am in, as the qualification is more engineering based, whereas I am currently in IT. I think it will become more relevant in later years as I specialise in a subject.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are several extra curricular activities to get involved in at work. These are often advertised via email and anyone can get involved if they want to. One of these activities is tall ships in which you are part of a team who mans and sails a ship for a few days. This helps to develop many skills such as team work.

  • They are a good employer with lots of opportunities. There is always encouragement to improve and progress your career as far as you can. They provide as much support as you need, whether it be with your job, your qualification or even personal issues. The work environments also tend to be good.
