  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is Software Engineer as an apprentice within Accenture, however, I am also studying for a Software Engineering Degree sponsored by Accenture. This role involves me working 4 days a week and attending university 1 day a week. The day at Uni doesn't change during the weeks and we also have block modules every couple of months for 2 weeks, in order to study more intensively. Whereas the other 4 days I am pretty much at work and contributing to proving solutions to the needs of our clients. Our job varies on the project, however, mine involves working closely with my team to stay on top of all the projects and we work with people all around the world in order to do so. I have responsibilities that a fresh Grad would have, with the only difference being that I have only just started my uni and I am much younger than a Grad would be. This allows me to gain a headstart in my career because if I am able and willing to take more and more responsibilities, I will be able to achieve higher roles faster than a normal grad, due to my experience in the company.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my existing skills through several pieces of training, however, I have also learnt new skills in my job due to the needs of the project. I have had to work with new platforms and applications new to me, which are however used vastly within Accenture. There are also loads of opportunities to gain qualifications that are relevant to the job position.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme very much. I think it suits me perfectly and I find that Accenture is the perfect company to deliver it. The people and the environments are great and I believe they make this place special. I believe it is well structured and everyone seems to learn from previous apprentices, which is a detail that will mean a lot for future applicants.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured. We have been welcomed by a party to network and get to know the fellow apprentices of our cohort, in addition to our recruiters. Then, we had a month of induction and training where we strengthened our relationships with the other apprentices. Then, after a 2 weeks block of uni, we were assigned to a project to start our career within Accenture. We have also had loads of networking activities available to us to meet and get to know other apprentices, from previous years, or important managers within the company.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive the support required in order to successfully complete our program. We are usually provided with the necessary support, however, if we encounter any issues or we face any difficulties, we always have people to talk to and who are ready to help us. As I mentioned before, people are the reason this company is great. I say this because anyone who I have ever contacted has always felt morally obliged to help me to the best of their ability, which I really appreciate.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • QA has been a good training provider so far, although there have been some issues in terms of organising our corse. We have received continuous support from QA in terms of our portfolio. They have also great facilities and very good teachers, from what I have experienced so far. Our skills coach has also been of great help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me perform better as I am able to apply and transfer the knowledge gained from the training provider into my daily work. Hence, I feel like the qualifications really pay off, as it allows me to gain more responsibilities and help more people. It has a positive impact on my working career.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a lot of extra-curricular activities and clubs that we are able to join. There are sporting clubs, debating clubs, religious clubs and so on. Each person that joins Accenture is able to relate one or more of the existing after-work clubs. There also various social activities, networking opportunities and tech-related events that are specific to us as apprentices or as software engineers. On top of all of this, Accenture also hosts amazing parties every now and then which are amazing opportunities to both have fun and network with people from the company.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because I genuinely think that Accenture is the place to be if you are willing to work for a corporate. Accenture really treats its employees well and it is reflected in the work carried out by the same. As previously mentioned, the people are who make the difference in Accenture; everyone is always willing to help, teach and learn. Our teams, depending on the project, may be split all over the world, however, the passion for technology and the drive to deliver a perfect service to our client is what brings us together. Accenture provides a lot of opportunities for us in order to progress further into our careers if you wish to do so; which I think is great as not a lot of companies may be able to do so. Accenture makes it easier for its employees to travel around the world and learn about different cultures due to its size and reach; I really value this and I cannot wait to get a project abroad myself. Finally, I believe Accenture really understands its employees and always does what is best for them; hence showing that People really are at the heart of this company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • Be yourself and show your passion for technology. Show that you are willing to learn on an everyday basis and that you are capable to handle the workload. Also, if you like travelling, make sure that you let recruitment know that you are a flexible individual; which is really valued in our workplace. Show your integrity and if you are suitable for this company, the recruitment team will pick that up. Good Luck and I hope to see you achieve your success!
