My role is to maintain, calibrate and repair a range of electrical equipment and instruments. This includes collecting and completing all required paperwork at beginning and completion of work. Collecting tge required tools and equipment and maintaining a dafe working practice from beginning to the end if job. The job must be completed in accordance to the maintenance instructions.
I have learnt a wide range of new skills, including working safely. Working to company and standard procedures. Completely relevant paperwork. Carrying out maintenance activities. Use fault finding techniques and repairs accordingly. Also nuclear safety procedures required by law and the company. I have also learnt a range of personal skills, such as people skills and working with a team.
I enjoy the program because I can use skills learnt in the classroom and develop them ob site. I am given the opportunity to learn a wide range of skills on the plant abd also about other people's jobs and how they work together to deliver the product to the company expectations.
The program could be structured better throughout the 2nd and 4th year. This is due to conflict of veiws of management and organisation of our final placements. Overall the programme is structured well as I have been able to learn the skills required to do the job well and maintain a job at the company
I receive a lot of support from the company. Im given good terms and conditions to be able to take sick leave and recive support from the company. If I have a problem the company will address it and find a suitable solution where appropriate. I am also give the opportunity to have paid leave for a company funded higher education qualification.
I receive less support from the training provider, however any problems are usually addressed by my employer. The training provider works closely with my employer to deliver the best training course structure to meet the needs of the company. The training could be improved by having more specific instrtors from the site.
I feel as though the training provided has set me up well to do the job required. The qualification allows me to apply for jobs externally as well. The course is a level 3 but I also have a hnc so it will allow me to work elsewhere if required.
My employer has lots of opportunities for fund raising events inside work and within the community. Many opportunities for community work is available. I was lucky enough to be selected for the apprentice ship cup challenge wgich is a sailing trip on a tall ship where I learnt a great amount of skills to us at work and also life skills. The trip was hard work and exhausting but well worth it.

There is the opportunity to learn lots of skills. The training for the job is good and can br used across industry.
If you work hard, it is worth it in the end. If you get the grades and take the opportunities given yoy will be highly employable inside and external of the site. The skill gained are transferable to other industries world wide, therefore you can leave the site if it is not for you.
