Currently I work as a Release Manager for a Telecommunications client. I am responsible for planning each of the different stages of the delivery cycle, including UX/UI, Functional design, Development and testing. I have daily meetings with stakeholders and application leads to align on plans and discuss technical dependencies that must be resolved in order for the plans to be followed. I am accountable for capacity allocation and ensuring the demand vs supply is balanced.
Since I started the apprenticeship I have been consistently learning and developing my existing skills and knowledge. I feel like I learn a new skill every day and am constantly given new opportunities to complete training courses and be upskilled in areas I am interested in. A skill I have most recently developed is being able to code in SQL at university to create databases.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the programme so far. Since starting my confidence has significantly improved and I have even volunteered to contribute at events around England. This is something I would never have imagined I would do before joining Accenture. I enjoy the social aspects of staying away from home in hotels at client sites and have made some great friends at university.
Our programme is very well organized and UEL and Accenture have a good relationship, ensuring all apprentices are equipped and able to learn whilst onsite at university and during the week at work. For me it was easy to find a role that is suitable and relates to the modules I have studied at university.
I receive great support from Accenture. Everyone in the organization has a career counsellor, who is dedicated to helping a small number of other employees achieve their career goals and monitor their own performance. Each apprentice also has an apprentice ambassador who is their point of contact for university related support and any queries.
We receive support every Monday at university and are able to reach out to our lecturers via email at any time. UEL regularly asks all apprentices for feedback through end of module questionnaires. Any questions I have ever asked have always been answered within a few days and I think support is excellent from the training provider and Accenture.
The modules I have studied for the degree in digital and technology solutions has complimented my job. I also find that my role and the knowledge I learn through it help me to perform better at university. For example, I learn the high level concepts at university and then develop further understanding through my role and by working with experienced industry professionals.
Yes there are plenty of activities and social events throughout the year. Most client accounts have a 'Life@' group which is a community of Accenture colleagues who are all working on the same account. This is especially important to people who work away from home during the week and gives them a chance to meet new people who have similar roles and working circumstances. The Christmas parties are always awesome!
Yes
I would recommend joining the Accenture Apprenticeship because its the best thing I have ever done. I am working towards a debt free degree and have learnt about the most recent technology though my role whilst gaining 'real life' experience. The Accenture teams are welcoming and more than willing to teach apprentices who are willing to learn.
I would advise others to just be themselves throughout the application process, show their passion for technology and be honest about their goals. Research is always important for any interview and there are lots of ways potential applicants can find out more about Accenture and the work that we do. Its a particularly good idea to attend one of the open days or ask existing apprentices about their experiences.
