  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a cyber security apprentice at UBS where I am involved with the Cyber threat management board, clear desk policies, regulations, studying for cyber exam and now going over USB and DVD access rights. Furthermore, I must ensure that I am improving on my competences in order to pass my apprenticeship scheme.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved on my presentations skills on PowerPoint, excel skills by attending a training course, developed my teamwork skills (ensuring that I correspond with other team members to gather their opinion and implement them or pass over a task once I have completed my section and presenting in front of an audience.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I like my programme as it allows me to study as well as working which gives me both experience in working in the field that I am studying. it also makes me gain an understanding why I need to learn what I do. Furthermore, it also allows me to meet people who has progressed in this department and allows me to have an insight to what they do.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In my opinion, I felt like organizing our access rights to fitch learning took too long to provide as we started in September however was only granted access a month later to the study material. Furthermore, once I completed my first exam, my fitch should have updated however didn't till a month later again.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I believe that my line manager is supporting in regards to the apprenticeship scheme and sets up meeting with other team members to teach us cyber related topics practically which will be covered in our exam. Furthermore, he would help us figure out our best learning style to help us pass our exams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I will tell her all the work I have been doing throughout my time and we would relate them to my book of work and competencies that I cover. Moreover, closer to my first exam [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was very positive and encouraged me that I will do well.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My first exam enabled me to have a greater understanding of the role of the bank I am working on and the regulations and policies in place. Also taught me the different services that UBS provides which enables me to perform better as I have a greater understanding for why I am doing the task given to me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are workshops that occur where an email is sent out and up to the individual to attended. For instance there was an wellness workshop which covered mental health such as depressing, anxiety and stress. Furthermore they also provided contact numbers if I ever faced a problem. There are also volunteering available to help others where UBS provides 2 days off in order to volunteer

  • 9a. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would say that it is a nice working environment with friendly people around you with great knowledge where they are happy to help and guide you in order to improve on yourself. Furthermore, there are many opportunities available once your foot is in the door. Also, workers are happy to teach you.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • Ensure that if you get the opportunity take it. Always advance your skills and move around to gain different skills sets. Furthermore, not everyone you meet you would get on with however working with these people allows you to develop your skills on how to handle different types of people. Furthermore, be yourself and show all your skills and UBS always wants you to be employable.
